Spain: Residency for buying a home worth £130,000 plus

Post by Teal Lantern »

Spain offers residency to anyone buying a home worth more than £130,000 in bid to save its housing market

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... arket.html

"Spain plans to offer foreigners residency permits if they buy houses worth more than 160,000 euros - approximately £128,500 - to try and reduce the country's bloated stock of unsold homes.

Spain currently has more than 700,000 unsold houses following the collapse of its real estate market in 2008.

Trade Ministry secretary Jaime Garcia-Legaz said the plan, expected to be approved in the coming weeks, would be aimed principally at the Chinese and Russian markets as the domestic demand was stagnant and showed no sign of improving."

The article says Ireland and Portugal have similar offers.

Seeing how the crisis is not going anywhere anytime soon I wouldn't spend that much money unless it was a penthouse or something.

The problem is you're going to lose a lot of your money in house price devaluation as the crisis worsens... also, there must be some terrible conditions as you could just sell it again the day after you get "residency" - Unless you want to live in Spain forever, I'd give it a miss.

Forget it, Spain is one of those Southern European countries where women have the power, much like France and Italy.

Men hit on women all the time (like in the US) and this inflates their egos and makes them develop a bitch shield against all men. Not to mention they never approach men, unlike German women.

Forget Spain, head to where the best women are - Germany!

Well, as much as I'd love to confirm but that's just not true, OzGuy. I've read about the girl you're skyping with in the other thread and I think it's great that you've found a gem. However, German women don't differ much from those "Southern European" women. I don't know how it compares to the US but there's also a PUA movement in Germany. One of the biggest forums has about 100,000 members, I think. Men don't even try to hit on women in Germany because all of them are either taken or have unrealistic standards (= single by choice), so that average men don't appear to them as partner material. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend buying houses anywhere in Western Europe.
