Do any of you have a hot, quick or bad temper? If so, how do you control it? Can it ever be cured?

I have quite the temper.

I've found that being angry standing up makes me want to FLY and punch whoever I'm angry at in the face. Sitting down less so.

I usually use the flight response to these situations. Because if I don't, I'm gonna stick with the fight response. And I'm too strong to be hitting people smaller than me . :D

You will most likely mellow as you age and your testosterone levels drop.

Some people channel their rage into productive avenues such as regular intense exercise (weight lifting and running). By the time they finish their work-outs, their exhaustion dulls their sense of rage. Try it.

I think the key is not trying to suppress your feelings, but to learn to observe them in a more detached way so that you feel that "you" are separate from them and not to act on them.

One meditation you can do is to simply breathe for a little while and observe your thoughts. When you encounter a negative thought or feeling, imagine that it is black smoke that you breathe in the next time you inhale. Imagine that the smoke enters your body and then is purified by your mind and disappears. Then when you exhale imagine that you are breathing out bright, positive energy to all sentient beings and that they receive this energy and are made happy by it (you also benefit from the energy, so don't try to "hold onto it" for yourself). If you don't have any negative thoughts at the moment, just do nothing when you inhale and focus on breathing out positive energy on the exhalations.

It might sound stupid, but it can be quite effective. It's one of the main reasons that I was able to survive the stress of my first year abroad. The ability to deal with negative feelings can allow you to succeed where others would fail.

It's natural to have negative thoughts, but the key is to prevent them from turning into negative actions.
