A thought experiment

Suppose a year ago you were trying to convince someone that pretty much the entire world was run by an evil secret cabal. They disagreed and you said, well what if next year the economies of the entire world were shut down and the entire social fabric destroyed over an ordinary common cold virus, leading to a massive consolidation of wealth for the elite. Would that prove the point?

I think a non-trivial percentage of people would be like, yes of course that would prove the point, but get out of here you paranoid nut - that would never happen.
