The day everything changed was a Saturday in late August. I woke up the way I do sometimes, rolling over to confront a gorgeous but completely unsuitable male person. My normal stretch and loll of self-satisfaction suddenly turned into an urgent need to put on my running shoes and do some thinking. It was somewhere on my 2nd lap around Lake of the Isles that I was able to admit it to myself; I’m done f***ing around. With no warning whatsoever, I became someone I didn’t think I was, at least not yet. I am now a person who wants one other person and one person only. I want to create a mutual admiration society with someone who is just like me. I want marriage. I want babies. I don’t want these things posthaste, but I want to travel roads that might lead to them, instead of continuing on my usual path of having amazing sex with men I secretly don’t respect because they’re not as smart as I am.

See, I have everything else. I have wonderful friends, a solid career, and a condo in Minneapolis. I have my health, and my siblings are my best friends. What I don’t seem to have is an opportunity to meet anyone who can keep it together and keep up with me.

I don’t expect anything out of this. It’s Craigslist. It’s for buying car parts and selling furniture. But, answer me if you can relate. Answer me if you’re a female who wants to commiserate. Answer me if you’re an attractive male professional in his early 30s who appreciates indie music but would never consider picking up a guitar. I’ve been lucky in every other area, why not this one?
