I'm not saying I totally doubt it when it comes to black men in Japan but there are a lot of exaggerations involved. From what i've read on other forums it's not nearly as widespread as it's made out to be. It's more a tiny niche and usually the same women at hip hop clubs etc..

Discrimination by non white people against white people abroad is anecdotal because it has not been seriously measured. The UN is mum about it. It's too busy bashing Israel, America, Britain, Russia.

It, as does crime, happens to some people and does not happen to others. Since no serious studies a la US ones have been carried out among the expat population and the Japanese population in regards to this, to actually assess it, it is not an easy subject to discuss and thus, it remains in the realm of the anecdotal.

Also, since most Western nationals are PC and guilt-ridden and taught that people of color are always victims, they will not acknowledge racism of non white nations. It creates cognitive dissonance, plus it makes them feel like they are oppressed and that they made a stupid decision to come.

So, any discussion about Japanese racism usually goes like this:

Expat one: "The Japanese are racist. No one will rent me an apartment. No girl wants to date me".

Expat two: "Bullshit! Never happened to me. The people love me! And I've had lots of GFs".

Expat one: "So, why did it happen to me?"

Expat two: "Because the problem is you! It's your attitude, maybe it's your arrogant personality?"

Expat one: "But I'm not arrogant. Let's ask a Japanese person."

Japanese person: "Ohhh, ahhhh, Japanese people are very shy of foreenah.
They can't speak English".

Expat one and two: "But we speak fluent Japanese to them. And we're not English speakers-- I'm a Frenchman, and my friend here is German".

Japanese person: "Ohhhh, aaaaah, I don't know, Japanese people very shy. Foreeenah is big. Scary. Japanese people tremble".

The thing is the richer, whiter and more handsome you are, and the higher is your position in the Japanese society, the less discrimination you will suffer particularly if you work for SONY, Mitsubishi in high capacity. It's a point system.

But even then, there will be Japanese only meetings at work.

Or if you work for some big international joint venture--some fusion of TOYOTA and Chrysler, etc. you should be OK.

So, the combination of whiteness, handsomeness, youthfulness, high position, connections and money, etc will keep you up there. Count the points. Japanese language skills are secondary.

Once any of those goes missing or never existed in the first place, then you will see more and more incidences of discrimination against you- interspersed with opposites of extreme kindness and hospitality-- and you will be at the mercy of personal luck and karma. To some, both or either may happen more frequently than to others. Usually, the lower you are on the totem pole and the fewer people introduce you, the less welcome you will have.

Language is not a cure for racism. Look at black people in the USA. They've been speaking English for 500 years here now. Did it stop segregation and discrimination? What about the Irish last century?

But language is used as an excuse because to admit that the Japanese are often racist, is to create dissonance.

A Japanese-American teaching in Japan made some youtube videos addressing racism in Japanese society which is often denied by the Japanese. Japanese nationalists went crazy on him and started threatening him and called his school complaining. He also appeared in a few podcasts talking about how far they went to go after him. It's quite interesting.

I don't think any non-Japanese people ever deny the Japanese are racist. I thought it was pretty common knowledge that the Japanese are some of the most racist people in the world. I mean WW2 is pretty much proof of how far they can go with that.

all i can say is i am black myself and it takes time for her to open her legs up. its not an easy in and out kind of thing. i remember asking a girl for sex when i brought her into my room. she RAN out the room as fast as she could. i just learned it takes them awhile to open their legs up.

this is true. i remember being in roppongi district. i could not get into saloons where women were walking around naked. I did get flirted with a japanese teenage girl there though.

i was military at the time. and the flirting from the japanese women on the base was so huge for me. i felt like a rockstar ahaha. good ol' days.

but off base was a different story. i tried asking for a japanese middle aged lady to have sex with me in a hotel. she pretended not to understand what i was saying to her. i even said hotel in japanese. she still acted like she couldn't understand.

There are some people who protest racism in Japan, but you can count anyone seriously tackling the problem on the fingers of one hand. No million men march, no MLK there. No sanctions like the ones against S. Africa. Yeah, an odd video or a couple like this. By some concerned handful of people most never heard of.

It's common knowledge but informally so and in some circles. Most will deny it.

Japan needs to be sanctioned by the UN. Until they pass human/civil rights laws.

Otherwise, just cut exchange of any kind till they do something.

Generally, large tourist or military areas in Asia where people speak English and make a living by catering to Americans present an artifical picture to you. They are about as much that country as Little Tokyo and Chinatown represent mainstream America.

Even if fluent, even if a freaking Japanese naturalized citizen; they won't let you in. Again the language is only used as an excuse.

This really isnt the thread for a ethical/moralistic rant, but why in the f**k would anyone want to go into a brothel in Japan? Don't you know most, if not all, of those are ran by yakuza? Sumo wrestling, gambling dens, and whore-houses are controlled by those seedy types. Just because the pimps have on a nice suit or look like everyday guys, does not mean they are mob affiliated.
