Brit tourist knifed in fight with Patong ladyboys over price
PHUKET: A 23-year-old British tourist suffered a knife injury amid a fight with three Patong ladyboys over money at a condo in Karon early this morning (Feb 22).

Officers were told that the British man had contacted three ladyboys, or katoey in Thai, from Patong to come to his condo. The ladyboys had agreed for B4,000 each.

However, when the three arrived at about 3am, the British man gave only one of them B2,000 and told the other two to go away.

That’s when the fight started, along with a struggle for the British man’s wallet.

According to one version of events, the British man started hitting the three ladyboys, despite confirmation that the ladyboys had started throwing things around the room, and breaking them.

I don't either.

But there's so many dangerous people that seem to be attracted to Pattaya that I refuse to go there. Crazy people love Pattaya. The beach there sucks. There's nothing really beautiful about that area of Thailand.

If you want to be safe, stay away from Pattaya.

What has this to do with Pattaya? This article is about Phuket, Pa-Tong and Karon beach - far away from Pattaya.
Title of this thread is wrong.

If you socialize at 3 AM with 3 ladyboys for sex and start a fight with them over money you might find yourself in trouble everywhere and not only in Thailand.

We have our second home - our own rooms in Pattaya/Central and Pattaya/Jomtien since more than 20 years and if you use just common sense it's perfectly safe, also my wife and our 2 daughters with their partners and friends and with our grandchildren together are frequently using our rooms in Pattaya. - Never had any problem.

About beaches, you better go over with the ferry to the Island (Koh Larn) - We rarely go over however, as we have a huge swimming pool in our secure condominium compound (80 x 20 meter and up to 2 meter deep) which is only for tenants and their guests.

I've been to Pattaya many times. It's a shit place in contrast to most other places in Thailand. But if you're looking to be a total sleazy degenerate, then yes Pattaya is good for that.

Koh Larn! LOL. I went there. It was lousy. Talk to me when you've been to Koh Lipe or Similan Islands.

Tourist gets knifed by 3 ladyboys in PHUKET

It seems you still don't know the difference between Pattaya and Phuket - Problem with a Thai map?

Similan Islands เกาะสิมิลัน are in Phang-nga พังงา province,
Ko Lipe เกาะหลีเป๊ะ belong to Satun สตูล province

Pattaya พัทยา is far away, belongs to Chonburi ชลบุรี Province

I hope the Brit wasn't a participant on this forum.

'Lady' boys are still men, with male aggression, with mental or emotional problems, and therefore they can be dangerous.

Is Pattaya a dangerous place? I was actually considering travelling there next year at some point.

Haven't you guys spent lengthy amounts of time in Thailand? Where would you recommend someone to go for a first time trip there? I looked at the prices of hotels and such and they are ridiculously cheap.
Spent three weeks there in 2014. Absolutely hated it, but never felt at all unsafe. Of course, I never partook of the nightlife, never took a step on Walking Street, and I'm sure that if you get lubricated enough in such environs you can manage to find some trouble. Yohan and Rock both own condos there, or at least Rock did 10 years ago.

Some people like Pattaya and others do not. If you don't like it and you arrived already there, you can easily continue to somewhere else in Thailand or crossing the border to neighboring countries.

It should be noticed that Pattaya for sure is not an ordinary Thai village or town - it is a holiday city, and of course there is also nightlife there, you decide for what you spend your money.

Yes, I have 2 condominium units the smaller one in Pattaya Central and the larger one in Pattaya/Jomtien, also have a motorcycle there and a local banking account.

It's not far from Japan, only about 5 hours flight and air fare is cheap. About USD 250,- return flight (from Fukuoka), and Pattaya is not far away from Bangkok.

I and wife often go to Pattaya, and also my 2 daughters and husband and our grandchildren are visiting us and stay with us for vacation.
Also sometimes friends from Europe coming to visit us.

To have your own rooms makes travel easy without luggage to carry, as all what we need is already ready in our rooms after arrival.
Very comfortable, also with ATM, convenience store, large swimming pool and restaurant and laundry etc. inside the building.

Yes, it is safe - never had any problem about burglary or vandalism in Pattaya. We bought our rooms in 2002, about 22 years ago.

You can surely go around between 07:00 AM up to 11:00 PM to everywhere in Pattaya and it is very safe, but after midnight it is getting dark in the city area, shops and malls are closing down and better be back in your rooms or within the hotel area past midnight.

I wouldn't partake in the nightlife either. I'm not into drinking and all that kind of stuff. I prefer to go somewhere nice for a meal or go see something cool like a nice temple or something. Go to a nice beach or have a swim in the sea. These are things I might look to do in Thailand. Hopefully I won't gey knifed by ladyboys lol
I stayed out of the sea because there are supposed to be jellyfish all over in that area, and meeting up with one is quite the unpleasant experience.

To stay out of the sea is a good advice.

In Southern Thailand near Songkhla I was attacked while swimming in the sea suddenly by a large number of jellyfish, and one large one bit me in the knee, a long deep cut on my knee and it took weeks to heal.

A few years later when walking/swimming near another deserted beach nearby I stepped on a broken beer bottle which was under water in the sand, the cut required also medical care and bandages over more than two weeks.

However Songkhla and all area towards south to Malaysia border (Pattani, Narathiwat, Yala) became too dangerous.
I cancelled the idea to buy a condominium unit in Had Yai.

We moved away from Songkhla/Had Yai area, and in 2002 I bought finally a condominium unit in Pattaya/Jomtien where we spend holidays/retirement since more than 20 years.

From that time on I am using only the very large private swimming pool within the condominium building.

Beach walking along the sea in the water or in the sand only with sandals, never barefoot.

If you don't socialize with this kind of people, you are perfectly safe from them.
They are not just everywhere, but using some certain areas only.

About temples you should be aware that they are often not located in the city area, but somewhere on hills etc. in a remote area and best to go there is to drive a rent-a-car or much cheaper rent a motorcycle, however be aware, even for the small motorcycles you need a Thai motorcycle driving licence (or international licence with group 'A') and a helmet, be free of drugs and alcohol.
Do not listen to locals who tell you police does not care about that. Foreigners breaking the rules are an easy target.

@Pixel--Dude
Jellyfish can appear suddenly in a large number - many of them are usually already dead when they arrive near the beach, as I said, I prefer a swimmingpool, and walking along the beach only with sandals.

Ladyboys, gays and such people usually stay in their own areas and do not approach anybody otherwise, at least this is the situation in Pattaya area.

About temples and other sightseeing places, no problem in Bangkok, public transport by skytrain, metro, buses is fairly good.

About Pattaya and around, some temples etc. are in Pattaya area within the city and can be visited by the cheap public transport or by feet,
for example (you can look up easily pictures, with google search in the google map, using the Thai script)

Wat Chai Mongkhon
วัดชัยมงคล พระอารามหลวง ชลบุรี

Wat Phra Yai
วัดพระใหญ่

Wat Nong Oo
วัดหนองอ้อ พัทยากลาง

but many are not within the city and the best way to go there is to drive yourself, either rent a motorcycle or car.
I have my own motorcycle in Pattaya, so I can go easily around everywhere.

for example

Wat Yan Nasangwararam Woramahawihan
วัดญาณสังวราราม วรมหาวิหาร

Wat Sattahip (Wat Luang Pho Yi)
วัดสัตหีบ (วัดหลวงพ่ออี๋)

Wat Huay Yai
วัดห้วยใหญ่

Or for example if you go to nearby SriRatcha (I know this city best because this is the main place for the Japanese with factories, shipping ports, Japanese owned hotel, golf places, karaoke etc), about 30 km north of Pattaya, you can go over to the Island of Koh SiChang by ferry, and walk there to:

Kuan Yin Shrine
ศาลเจ้าแม่กวนอิม

Chao Pho Khao Yai Shrine
ศาลเจ้าพ่อเขาใหญ่

Mondop Roi Phraphutthabat
มณฑปรอยพระพุทธบาท

or in Sri Ratcha, in the city, can go by feet up the hill

Khao Phra Khru Monastery
สำนักสงฆ์เขาพระครู

So as someone who travels there a lot would you recommend Pattaya for someone looking to visit Thailand for the first time?
OMG Please don't go to Pattaya first. You'll see a lot of hookers and old men drinking beer. @gsjackson said he hated it.

If tons of tourists go somewhere in Thailand, that's a good rule to stay away from those places. Even Central Thailand in small towns is nice and peaceful. When I go back to Thailand again I'm skipping all the tourist crap and doing a solo bike trip going through small towns to be around the Thai people.

I made some videos on my channel of my recent trip there:

I highly recommend Railay. It was awesome.

This was at a hotel near Ao Nang where they let visitors stay at the beach during the day.
