Singapore is a westernized, unfriendly place. It takes decent care of its citizens as far as I know. The people and women aren't friendly or good for dating, and it is far too expensive for the average tourist anyway. And going into the country is a pain in the a** too.

I am going there for the first time just for a couple of days just to tick it off my list and maybe find a cheap laptop.

Why is it a pain in the a** to go into the country? Is there anything I should be aware of?

Singapore is easy to get into if you're from a developed country. You can stay there for 3 months visa-free, like Malaysia and Taiwan.

Possession and importation of chewing gum are illegal. Throwing trash on the street can get you a $1,000 fine. Do not bring durians on the metro. Drug traffickers face the death penalty, and vandals are caned on their bare skin.

Not surprisingly, Singapore got its nanny state attitude from the British.

Possesion of chewing gum is illegal?! WTF! I always have a few sticks of it with me for after I eat something. It has helped me give up smoking.
