Keeping up with Local Happenings in Angeles City Area...

Post by Mr S »

For those wanting to keep tabs of what's going on in Angeles City area, the following is a good semi-monthly newsletter by a local restaurant owner. One thing for sure, with the local economy on the brink of recession crime is definitely going up. Where I live in Quezon city I just found out that there has been a lot of "unofficial crime", which basically means the police had been keeping it hidden from the public. Essentially the low income and street people are becoming more brazen with robbing people and stealing things so if you're planning on visiting the Philippines this year be aware you need to be cautious of where you are and who is around you, no matter what time of the day it seems. Robberies are happening in the day and evenings now too, not just late night.

I still think it's safer than most other large cities in the States, but as with any large city and 3rd world country, hunger and life staples for survival will come before obeying the law...

Basically don't look like you have money and don't wear expensive clothes or jewelry, or using expensive cell phones in public places. Also don't carry loads of cash in your wallet. If you need to carry a large sum of cash around use a money belt and keep enough in your wallet for whatever you plan on spending. Cause the locals here look in your wallet while your getting cash out to see how "rich" you are. The less trust worthy ones may take an inkling to follow you out of the store or where ever you happen to be...
