A nice drop from the Filipino melting pot

Post by publicduende »

American singer-songwriter David DiMuzio has been a fixture on the Philippine music scene for a few years now, having written songs for the likes of Nyoy Volante, Mark Bautista, Top Suzara, Jayson Fernandez of Rivermaya, Geneva Cruz, Arnee Hidalgo, Mikey Bustos, and Yassi Pressman.

His YouTube channel has amassed almost 8 million views for its 218 videos, many of which have him performing Filipino songs with Filipino artists. But the video above, which he uploaded on Monday, marks the first time he has performed a Filipino song with a fellow expatriate — a lovely Russian lady with a comely voice.

“My friend Anna Rabtsun is from Russia, but now resides with her Filipino husband in Cavite, Philippines. While learning how to speak Filipino she has learned quite a few Tagalog songs, and she asked me if I would be up for a duet of this song with her,â€￾ David notes in his intro to the video.

The song is the classic Sharon Cuneta ballad “Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Koâ€￾, written by Rey Valera and recently revived by Noel Cabangon.

“It’s one of my all-time favorite Filipino songs so I happily agreed,â€￾ David says.
