Wow check this out. According to Filipina Pea, if you convert to Islam in the PH you can have multiple wives, up to four! So polygamy is still legal there. Mind blowing. See below.

Polygamy is illegal anywhere in the Philippines. With Vatican City, and maybe Malta and the State of Utah, the Philippines is the country where the Church has the most influence on secular life, including politics. Remember that, before the religious rite (Christian, Islamic, etc.) you need to marry in front of a government officer.

Only in certain provinces of Mindanao, if the Mayor or the officiating officer is Muslim and one or both in the couple are good friends with them, multiple civil marriage ceremonies may be performed. Then, of course, the marriage is magically never transcribed or the papers conveniently "lost".

In reality, since most of these areas are dirt poor, most men can only afford to get married once, if at all. Many can't be bothered to marry. Or they marry a wife and treat countless other girls as "secret wives" (euphemism for "kabit", or mistress). If they live under the same roof, as the Quran instructs, for the local government, they are just cohabitating men and women. No marriage, no pain.
