Living in Mexico working in America?

Is it feasible considering border crossing tines, etc? I had a buddy who did this, if I did, I would consider living near Houston or San Diego. Also, I don't want to have to deal with cartel bullshit etc which I hear can be a problem with border towns in Northern Mexico.

If you have to work in the USA, what would be the benefit of driving so far home everyday? If you want to work in the USA, why not live in the USA but close to the border? That way, you can just walk across to Mexico. You won't want to bring your car over there anyway as it will likely get stolen.

I HIGHLY recommend that you be fluent in Spanish before you do this. I live only an hour from the border and I wouldn't THINK of going across unless I had a Spanish speaker with me (preferably a Mexican immigrant). I used to go across all the time many years ago (before it got really bad). Mexican Police are extremely corrupt and would mess with me constantly (I'm a white male) and would try to fleece me of $$ in whatever way they could. Luckily, I always had Mexican friends there to talk them out of it, bribe them, etc...

Also consider that Mexicans are racist against white males...at least near the border. They WILL get angry if you approach Mexican women or if Mexican women approach you. I got spit on, groups of guys tried to jump me (I hung with a group of Mexican Immigrant friends that went to blows several times during attempts), and white guys disappeared regularly. I had to have my Mexican friends with me everywhere I went...even to restrooms. This was in Nogales, Mexico btw and was BEFORE things got really ugly with the Cartels...

There are many people that work in San Diego and live in Mexico. If you're not dealing with drugs, you don't have to worry about cartel. I can't count how many times I've been to Mexico and never once had an issue. I've been around during the day and during the night. Mexico can be as safe or as dangerous as any other place you visit in the US. Just stick to common sense and don't go to places that you wouldn't normally go to even in the US. You'll always hear mixed stories from different people. Some people have many bad experiences and some always have a good experience. So in reality, you just have to see for yourself.

If you really are considering to cross frequently, you should seriously look into applying for a Sentri pass. This pass will allow you to cross back to the US without those long lines. But to get one, you have to pass a full background check and a one on one personal interview with a border official. But it's very well worth it if you plan to go in and out of Mexico a lot.

Mark is correct, as long as you don't have any thing strange on your record or owe back child support, you should be able to get a Sentri pass.

Lots of people do this everyday and this trumped up violence by the Cartels has little to do with you, unless you're involved in drugs and that's your ass in that case.

Its it possible for you to get caught in the crossfire between the cartels and the Federalies, sure but unlikely.

Rent in 60-70% less and many services are reduced by 40-50% compared to the US.

I'd agree that getting beachfront is very doable in Mexico if you work in San Diego. It is 34 miles from downtown San Diego to Rosarita, MX beach. Before considering something like this you should drive it multiple times and figure out the Sentri pass they are talking about. You should time it and know how long it will take and if you can manage it. You could live on the beach and have a new Mexicana every month if that's what you want to do.

Crossing into Texas is definitely something I wouldn't do. That much I know, but driving through Tijuana to and from the beach I am less sure and educated about.
