Are most costa ricans,Castizos?

Post by willymonfrete »

I look castizo (like a castizo colombian or puerto rican according to my sister who is well traveled and acquinted with latinos, and also my mom said that and she lived in puerto rico)with certain hairstyles and shaven face(with facial hair I look more lebanese or israeli),and wanna pass as a local wherever I go.

I'm tired of being a perpetual foreigner.Having lived in USA and holland,I am a foreigner and get excluded among blacks, asians and whites.

even before I move to Latin america,I want to make money in el paso before I go due to its high white hispanic population.

and Costa rica also sounds like a great place, with great food and being mellow and off the radar.

if not the majority are atleast half or one third more europeanish looking castizos(definition of a castizo instead of harnizo)?

White hondurans and puerto ricans have thought I was puerto rican, and have been friendly to me in the states, but mestizos see me as a 'other'.

I'm under the impression that the genetic constitution of Costa Rica is definitely more on the European side compared to other countries in the region. The country will probably have a sizeable castizo population.

Here are the results of a study which measured the percentage of European, African and Amerindian admixture in various Latin American populations (I included it in my thread on Latina phenotypes):

As you can see above, European genes predominate in Costa Rica at 67% in the first sample and 58% in the second one. The percentage of African admixture is also significantly lower that in other Central American countries such as Nicaragua to the northwest. This means that the majority of Costa Ricans should have more of a European appearance and you shouldn't feel out of place in the country. Maybe Costa Rica will be a great HappierAbroad location for you.
