Latin Americans rank as happiest people on planet

A poll released Wednesday of nearly 150,000 people around the world says seven of the world's 10 countries with the most upbeat attitudes are in Latin America.

Many of the seven do poorly in traditional measures of well-being, like Guatemala, a country torn by decades of civil war followed by waves of gang-driven criminality that give it one of the highest homicide rates in the world. Guatemala sits just above Iraq on the United Nations' Human Development Index, a composite of life expectancy, education and per capita income. But it ranks seventh in positive emotions.

Most of these poor countries in warm climates do NOT have 24/7 News, talk radio or TV talking heads. That alone would make you tons happier.

You definately feel a positive upbeat energy wherever latinos congegrate.I saw this in both miami and my latino local restaurant.it's a energy you can feel in the air,which you don't feel absent of latinos there.

I know what you mean. Some of my fondest memories are of hanging out with my Latin@ friends in Spain and Mexico, getting coffee together, eating at restaurants, going to the cinema, enjoying local festivals and cultural events, and going to Latin nightclubs at the weekend. Latin@s definitely have a soulful energy and are fun to be around. And everything sounds so much better in Spanish.

On the other hand, I can't stand being around British people; they seem so soulless and boring and are just plain weird and their language sounds ugly.
