The town shown in the first video, San Miguel de Allende, is THE gringo ghetto in Mexico. I went there 25 years ago and even then there were too many gringos for me. But Mexico is a big country and I bet there are plenty of nice places where you'd be one of the only gringos in town.Contrarian Expatriate wrote:With all those Americans flocking down there, Mexico would be the LAST place I would want to settle!

Mexico is indeed a big country, despite people's perception to the contrary. Check these stats out:
"The area of Mexico is 1,958,200 square kilometers or 761,606 square miles.
Mexico is the 15th largest country in the world. It is also roughly three times the size of Texas, the approximate size of Alaska, or one fifth of the total United States land size. On a more "international scale", Mexico is roughly the same size of Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Germany put together."

Lots of room to stay away from the gringos and still avoid the cartels. But then again, I haven't really visited...but hope to someday... I've heard Guadalajara is nice...
