Video game tester jobs. Where to go?
Video game tester jobs. Where to go?
I seen the threads Winston posted about making money online at the comfort of your own home. That's one of the things I've been looking into, which I bookmared a couple of links. This is one of the things I might consider doing as a job.
...But what about a job where you can test video games and get paid at the comfort of your own home? Where is the right site to go to and sign up? On top of that, is there a site that pays their testers good? I'm thinking about doing this. I've always been a gamer and I've always had a strong passion for video games, which I've had many years of experience with. Any ideas on some links I can visit? I'm just trying to get somewhere with making money at your own home. I don't want to spend the rest of my like working in a factory doing slave labor. =P

Video game tester? Working from home and getting paid decent money?
You're not asking for much, are you?
I'm pretty sure the competition for those careers is pretty stiff if many of them are around.
I would like to find a job where I can get paid what I'm making now, review and critique my favorite types of fetish porn and still work from home or online. Where can I find an at-home porn reviewer job that pays $100k?

If you want to work in software testing, get a job as QA Analyst.

Two possibilties:
(1) Apply to the game companies themselves. Never mind the work-from-home stuff for now. That can come later once yo have a career with them. Be willing to do anything to start - janitorial, shipping, marketing.
(2) Start a blog, do your reviews, and start building a following. Do reviews. Attend the conventions. Do onsite webcasts. Once you have a readership, it can be monetized.
Back in the 80's, in high school one of my best friends worked as a tester for Nintendo from home. I don't know if you can do that now though. But you have to be exceptionally good in that you can make it to the end of a game within a few days, even really difficult games.
While he was testing games though, he would talk to me on the phone, and I would hear him cuss every other minute. I'd imagine that it's a frustrating job to be under pressure to finish a game and cussing every time you lose a life. lol
However, since games can be hacked today to give your character invincibility or unlimited lives, perhaps testers don't need to be that good anymore? lol

Lol! I can relate to that Winston. That was one of the systems I used to play way back in the day. Those kinds of games are very frustrating! xD There are so many system I used to own, including the PS3 and XBox 360. Now I just play role-playing games and modify them using mods created by other authors on a PC. Mostly the Bethesda RPG's.Winston wrote:Back in the 80's, in high school one of my best friends worked as a tester for Nintendo from home. I don't know if you can do that now though. As far as other skills & hobbies I really enjoy doing,....ummm....well? I think my YouTube channel alone can be self explanatory on that alone. I know how to create & edit videos to my liking based on my female character models I created. So far it's drawn some traffic. Here is the link to my channel if you guys want to check it out and have some ideas of how I can turn this into a career.

I also have screenshots of my female characters in most Bethesday role-playing games. The following link will take you to my Nexus Forums profile. I have made screenshots for Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and TES IV Oblivion. ...Yeah. I don't go out much. Let's just say when you're an outcast like myself in the dating world, it gets boring in Michigan real quick! Lol! xD

I'm not showing these links encourage more people to promote them. I'm just trying to figure out what I can do as a career without feeling like I'm being a slave. I'll need something as a back-up plan as far as making money online. Especially if I plan to travel quite a bit, which I'm sure the job that I have now won't like that too much, but it's all that I got as far as income and I can't just up and leave. I know there's got to be something I can do with these kind of skills I have, but this alone has always been my passion!

I once talked to Nintendo about this, and it seems most of the jobs would be in Redmond (where Nintendo and Microsoft is), or in California (where the majority of other firms are). As far as out of the home, there is not really any to my knowledge that are on the up and up.

Why are pretty much all video games nowadays first person shooter games or RPG games?
Both of them are very repetitive and mind numbing. How many times in a row can you shoot something over and over again and not get tired of it? I don't get it. What's the appeal of that?
Also, how do people not get motion sickness from those games where your point of view keeps moving around left and right? After a while of that, I get nauseous and feel motion sickness. How does that not happen to others?

True, but there are some good games coming out. If you are into strategy, Sim City is coming out (actually looks half way decent). Also, if you go back a little bit, older games tend to be better overall in my opinion. But I agree. Since 2008 there has not been as diverse of a climate for video games. It seems like FPS or bust. And it seems like adventure games are going the way of text adventure almost (although there still are adventure games, it seems like fps is taking over). But for me, give me a good strategy game, dosbox, and some popcorn and we will be cooking in no timeWinston wrote:Why are pretty much all video games nowadays first person shooter games or RPG games?

Well it turns out that high school friend of mine still works for a video game company as an R&D Gaming Engineer. His name is "Jim Hernandez" and if you Google "Jim Hernandez Gaming" you will find his Linkedin profile. It doesn't have an email you can write to. I think you have to have an upgraded account to PM him on Linkedin. So if any of you have that, you can try writing him and asking him how to get a video game tester job. Tell him I referred you and tell him to write me sometime too. I haven't talked to him since the 1980's. lolWinston wrote:Back in the 80's, in high school one of my best friends worked as a tester for Nintendo from home. Here is the direct link to his Linkedin profile, which contains his extensive resume in the video game industry. I think even Momopi would be impressed by his geek resume. lol
