25-35K in pesos. $600-800 a month. Commissions may or may not be that big. Work permits cost money and taxes will be some 15 percent.

You may make more money teaching ESL online.

I'm still planning on trying for the Phils long term. I will try to find a job at a school or call center or some-such, but I know chances are slim and the schools could rip me off, plus the lack of help with visas. The job would just be to stay longer term. Otherwise, it seems like I should just teach ESL online and do freelance writing online. But that alone won't allow me to stay there. Sure wish the country was easier to get into longer term...

Chances are not slim.

With the new 6 month visa, you should be able to stay long term. Schools will not rip you off in most cases. There are jobs. Those who want to stay in the Philippines do. I would hang out in Angeles City as an entry point.
