Went out for breakfast- 4 people, bill came out to 65 cents!!
Train ticket was 14 cents. I changed my mind to take the bus instead, didn't even bother to wait in line to get a refund on the train ticket (local, about 20 minutes).
Your own hotel room just 10 minute walk from the main drag in Bangalore-- (one of the top 3 cities in India), just $4.50
Split a room with someone else pay just $2-3.
Pay $13 for a meal, and you are getting high luxury in an upscale setting.
Mosquito repellent, just 20 cents (decent sized tube).
Of course, lots of imported stuff and other things are more expensive. But i remember agonizing over 7 dollars-- as that was a lot of money and a big ripoff!!
Met some westerners (especially Israelis) living VERY cheaply-- and bargaining hard for everything.
