Pharmaceutical companies want to develop drugs for every human emotion, depression is a good example of this. There's no blood test for depression but the medical establishment insists on treating you anyway. We don't want doctor's running out of patients.

Most psychiatric "disorders" are all based on theories anyway. Don't believe me? Try doing some research into Bipolar II disorder. No one has figured out the cause of this "disorder" and the mechanism of action of most drugs used to treat the disorder is not even understood. For clinical depression, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors are usually prescribed without any available technology to measure an individual's serotonin production or "uptake." It is assumed that "imbalances" in this neurological process are the root cause of depression. Never mind a whole slew of other neurotransmitters and brain functions. Vitamin deficiencies can often lead to neurological problems, and yet mainstream psychiatry/psychology would not consider ordering comprehensive blood tests for a patient as a first line treatment protocol.
All the biochemistry aside, though, I'm a strong believer in situational psychological problems. My friend calls it "civilization participation syndrome." OF COURSE people are going to be depressed. Yet, a large portion of depression can be overcome simply by identifying one's own patterns and then making decisions to change the patterns that lead to feeling bad.

Aha, I have been reading stuff related to that topic yesterday. About schools in the Glorious USA distributing drugs to kids diagnosed with ADHD.
I think the problem isn't more about whether the diseases are made up or not. The main issue is about Big Pharma shoving their medications down people's throats at the shortest notice, which most of the time doesn't even work in the long run.
I genuinely am professionally diagnosed with attention deficit problems when I was a kid, but no I wasn't being shoved pills down my throat as a way of curing it. Exercise, regular sleep, sound nutrition and good ol' self-disciplining is what led me to keep my condition under control. Beats Ritalin in increasing my blood dopamine levels every time!
