Do you attend religious service?

I am curious to know who here attends regular religious service. I recently went back to attending Greek Orthodox church. It isn't perfect and I am not a Christian, but it is the best I can find.

Wait, I thought that you were Jewish? Do you do a sort of syncretism with Christianity?

I don't attend any sort of formal services, myself. I walked away from Christianity many years ago, and my beliefs today are mostly agnostic with a mild interest in Paganism. I don't participate in a formal Pagan group, though, and don't even call myself that officially just yet. It's an interest.

I remember back in the day when my mother dragged me along to Presbyterian services. The pastor was an ex-scientist, and/but as politically correct as all get out. Even then, and this was decades ago, it was creeping political correctness as a religion. In one sermon he showed a picture of a natural forest with lots of diverse life forms and then one of a plantation forest with none. He compared the church to the latter because we didn't have any dykes, faggots, unapologetic skanks etc. Occasionally old women would dispute his teachings by quoting passages from the Bible, but eventually they died off and he and his successors got their way. This turned me off religion for a long time.

Is Judaism an ethnicity or a religion? No one seems willing to answer this question. I am ethnically Jewish. I was raised Atheist. I now follow the Old Testament. I reject the Talmud and I blame the Talmud for the Holocaust which wiped out most of my family. For more, see:

I don't care much about beliefs. My interest is in morality.

England and the CITI along with the power structure in America took Germany over after WW1, I would not blame a piece of literature. People made what took place in ww2 happen not the teachings of a book.

I think I posted this before for you, who put the state of Israel together? I just do not believe any of our history being spoon fed to us.

As an outsider, I'm unclear on the answer, because I've met all kinds of observant Jews (of Judaism) of different branches, and then others who do agree with the "Messianic" thing, still others who oppose it quite staunchly, Kabbalah types, Rebbe adherents, and then many atheist, or just secular, Jews. It can be very confusing to those of us not in the circle.

Re the original question, I dropped into a Catholic church in San QUintin, Baja California on Easter morning, after I heard a church bell from my motel there. I felt a blessing including power radiating from the Body and Blood of Christ.

I didn't answer the poll because an honest answer would be "NO", I do not regularly attend services. Yet I hunger to do so... it just feels lonely and odd walking in alone.

Not just here. Same damn thing back in Glendale, California at Armenian churches.

Congratulations on attending with your family a the Greek Orthodox congregation. Regardless of faith or lack thereof, you are improving the quality of the peer influence and social circle around your family by orders of magnitude over the general fragmented and neurotic intelligentsia in the US.

I read some of the information in that link, it looks interesting. Right now I am watching documentaries on the WWII and the holocaust. I just saw the movie, "Schindler's List" and it horrified me. I always knew the background story on the holocaust but watching that movie put it all into perspective.

I also just watched the movie, "Saving Private Ryan" that was also a very well made movie and historically accurate. I am currently watching a few documentaries on the holocaust, how it all started, the round up of the Jews, the ghettos, and the death camps.

You could not make a horror movie anymore gruesome than what happened during the holocaust. Little babies being murdered (shot to death, or gassed) it's hard to believe one man caused the death of millions of people (not just Jews but also non Jews as well).

Watching the survivors of the holocaust makes me realize my life is pretty dam good compared to what these people had to live through. I almost threw up watching some of these documentaries.

The Xalapa idea was years ago. I wanted to move partly because Xalapa was a low crime area. My wife rejected this idea and said things always change in Mexico. She was right and now Xalapa is a center for the Zetas. I live in El Paso.

Sorry you lost your family too such a tragedy, follow the money. It is frustrating that people have a hard time seeing how monetary policy runs the modern world as well as religion and has been for a long time.
