I think I saw a show similiar to this one in Korea.

What surprise me is that I keep hearing news in China of the sex ratio imbalance. You know where there is 20-40 million more males in china than females by 2020..but even now in 2010 there is a sex imbalance. I would figure they make shows where it is the other way around.

The gender imbalance exists across East Asia, but the number of men who are able to marry and support and family is fewer than the women. It's much easier for women to marry up the socio-economic ladder than the other way around. Depending on who's stats you believe in, there are somewhere between 130 million (10%) to 350 million (27%) people in China that lived on less than $1.25 PPP per day in 2004.

What China is experiencing today in terms of gender imbalance is actually following a historical pattern to its neighbors like S. Korea and Taiwan, and India in turn is following China's pattern. You can read about it here:

You bring up a good point..about china social economic condition. But that lies the problem. There already is international mail order bride site for chinese women to western men. I would imagine the wealthy Chinese men would have no trouble finding a wife . But that leaves millions of marginalize chinese men who don't have that access.

At least in South Korea or and Japan. You have cases of Korean men who cannot find a Korean woman . These Korean man found someone from the Philippines, Vietnam etc.

You have western guys who can't deal with American woman or can't get the decents one use their social economic advantage and find someone in Asia etc..

But we all know this already...
