No services for people with disabilities in Philippines!
No services for people with disabilities in Philippines!
Apparently, I have just read some frustrating news! The Philippines have practically nothing for people with disabilities! No social security, no respite care, no subsidized/Section 8 housing, nothing, and in fact, reportedly, people with disabilities are discriminated against in the Philippines, and the Philippines government practically does not even bother to start service programs for people with disabilities in the Philippines.
So apparently it seems, the only way to get any kind of income/livelihood in the Philippines is to either work or live with someone who is capable of supporting you financially.

This is correct, but other Asian countries of the same poor economic level offer nothing as well.
Check out Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh etc. etc.
African countries are nothing better... there is very little budget available for handicapped people.

Are you serious? Do you have any clue about the rest of the world outside collapsing welfare States in the West?
So you want to go to a third world country and you are aghast that they won't give you free stuff. OMG! Of all the indignities! Big daddy government won't be there to give me a free tit.
They do have a very reliable support system in the Philippines though. It's called FAMILY.
In the Philippines, big daddy government is not every woman's husband and every unfortunate man's rich uncle.
There are some people from the West with disabilities that have some income from elsewhere and live well on a very limited income. You might be able to hire a full time housekeeper for $100 a month plus a little maids room.
Try doing that in the USA.
Re: No services for people with disabilities in Philippines!
Surprisingly, the "communist" countries here in Asia are more like libertarian paradises instead; you are completely on your own, which may or may not be seen as a good thing. It is the "Capitalist" western countries that are more socialist and collectivist in many respects lol.
All that drivel about American individualism vs asian "hive mentality" etc is put into question when you come to this hemisphere, contrary to quick stereotypes.
I do agree it's ok to help people to a point if they have some catastrophic misfortune, but the OP being all entitled and demanding about it is not ok. Always remember, It's other people's money.

No sh*t! loleither work or live with someone who is capable of supporting you financially.

I am not happy with what two of the repliers have said. Like according to the two of you, there is no such thing as autism, cerebral palsy, alzheimers, paraplegia, quadriplegia, epilepsy, polio, bi polar disorder, blindness, deafness, and spina bifida. I take it that's what the both of you are thinking.
Re: No services for people with disabilities in Philippines!
Like i said, it's important to help people if there is something real bad that prevents the person from making a living. But i disagree with the entitlement mentality.traveller wrote:I am not happy with what two of the repliers have said. "Services" are not some magic fruit that comes from a magic tree. A lot of people have to work and bust ass to produce those resources; so some appreciation, instead of entitlement, is in order.
And yeah regarding the OP, it is unfortunate, but you can't just show up to a country and expect to be taken care of, it wouldn't be fair with the workers there.

You simply do not know. Yes, if you need handouts and or government assistance, the entire third world is a place you do NOTwant to go. These are poor countries. You think dozens of poor Filipinos should work for free to support you? How arrogant! Families in the Philippines take care of their own disabled as best they can. Unlike the "progressive" country you come from, there is no such thing as "retirement" homes where you park the old and frail to die. The old are taken care of by their families as part of multi-generational households.

To me, this is like saying that, if a man has a disability that prevents him from working, then he's totally and permanently out of luck with the dating and marriage atmosphere worldwide. In other words, it's like any man found to have a disability may as well be required to get surgically castrated, eyes gouged out, hands cut off, and permanently quarantined from the world's entire female population.

Actually the great Corny is wrong in some regards about the Blackman, on the Jew tube they were showing where in certain African tribes when a child was born and there was the slightest thing wrong with it they would have a hole dug and filled with water then drop a rock over it with the child submerged immediately in the hole in order to keep the tribe healthy and vibrant.traveller wrote:To me, this is like saying that, if a man has a disability that prevents him from working, then he's totally and permanently out of luck with the dating and marriage atmosphere worldwide. Consider yourself lucky, the Blackman would have dropped a rock on your a$$ long ago and taken your wallet too boot!

Unless you have very wealthy parents or can make stunning advances in math and physics. Yep.traveller wrote:To me, this is like saying that, if a man has a disability that prevents him from working, then he's totally and permanently out of luck with the dating and marriage atmosphere worldwide. As for the second part, it is a bit of an overreaction. Plenty of forever alones go through life or decades without resorting to any of those things. Porn+hand baby.
OTOH I know this guy, a cousin of mine actually. Not very attractive. Can hardly talk, walks with difficulty. Can't work. He scores girls way above his looks level. I do believe he managed to get some sort of pension beyond the basic disability. Also it isn't a one time thing, he does it over and over. I don't get it. Seems some girls love to take care of a guy who is helpless. On Quora there are stories of women who date near homeless guys.
I'd hazard a guess that these are outliers though.
An interesting question, would you go out with a disabled girl who is on the dole? Most guys wouldn't bother with a girl with MS or in a chair.

The most bizzare element is the expectation that one can show up in the Philippines and poor people there should be working so you get free stuff.cdnFA wrote:Unless you have very wealthy parents or can make stunning advances in math and physics. Re: No services for people with disabilities in Philippines!
I am all for treating people with disabilities with care but when it gets to the point the productive who keep a civilization moving forward throw the towel in because to many resources are misallocated by the state you have a major problem and people with disabilities is just part of the overall picture.
There are producers and non producers in our civilizations and the non producers do not deserve the lions share.....

Sounds like the inlaws of a typical foreigner who married a Filipino girl. Except for the poor part.OutWest wrote:

Often that is the case. It's a poor country.cdnFA wrote:Sounds like the inlaws of a typical foreigner who married a Filipino girl. Except for the poor part.OutWest wrote:

I married a middle class Mindanao girl, but fate is fickle and so unpredictable. My father in law inherited enough to move him up a lot. My in-laws need nothing from me.
He bought a house near Sacramento and paid cash for it.
