Re: Thai gov cracking down on prostitution
In this article the female tourism minister says 'Thailand is closed to sex trade'.

Quote from article:
'In an attempt to diversify the industry, Thailand is starting a “month for women travellers” campaign in August, in which female-only pink immigration lanes and parking zones will be set up in international airports.'

Re: Thai gov cracking down on prostitution
more reason to avoid what i feel is an increasingly xenophobic and bureaucratic country
Re: Thai gov cracking down on prostitution
it's a token gesture; there's little " prostitution" there, to begin with. There is massage, drinking, watching dances and going to restaurants. In karaoke bars, prostitutes are just " singers". But her measures look good and will help boost the image of Thailand and show the world community they are doing something to address the problem. A Potemkin village type measure. Yawn.
A brain is a terrible thing to wash!

Re: Thai gov cracking down on prostitution
Thai's don't control Thailand...Its the Thai Chinese..
90% of all business in Thailand is owned by Thai Chinese..All billionaires are Thai Chinese.
Chinese are super smart and money oriented. Thailand is amazing for this reason. They know the Vibe......Thailand will have prostitution as usual....Its all money that matters to Thai Chinese...
I'm hearing these kinds of news since 2006 when I first visited Thailand and even today...The nightlife has gone better than before...NO worries just have fun

Re: Thai gov cracking down on prostitution
Fact of the matter is that the Thais cannot to lose the industry. Imagine if 1,000,000 Brits alone would vanish. Each one of them probably spends a minimum of $3000 per trip. It's pretty darned naïve to think tourists would come only for the culture. Ain't happening.
Every time to go to Bangkok, I'm amazed at the number of high rise buildings being erected. Many of those are condos being snapped up by older, foreign single men and they aren't coming to Thailand for the phad thai LOL.

Re: Thai gov cracking down on prostitution
Well, In Guangdong, China, the government massively crackdown on prostitution in Dongguan, and now, it's a dead zone compared to before. The government also cracked down on prostitution in Shenzhen, closing down many massage places and spas there.
I think in the future, as Thailand becomes more economically developed, the government will begin to crack down on prostitution catering towards farang, but for the local Thai's--and traveling Asians--prostitution will still be allowed to continue.
The reason being, it's all about 'face.' I'm guessing the government and Thai's feel a little embarrassed about all the foreigner mongers in Thailand, but it's not losing face for Thais if prostitution is catered towards Asians. That's Asian hypocrisy for you! Lol. (I'm Asian American, btw).

You're delusional, like mongers who think the Amsterdam red-light district is important economically, when in fact prostitution is a mere pimple on the ass of the Dutch economy.pete98146 wrote:Fact of the matter is that the Thais cannot to lose the industry. Stickman, who is something of an expert in the Thai sex tourism industry, agrees with me that sex tourism is not that important to Thailand, especially considering that sex tourism reduces regular tourism because of the bad publicity.

Lets be frank.
Local officials with commercial interests in prostitution often protect the practice.
According to the Feminist Cunt Kritaya Archavanitkul, a Thai human rights activist,
Thai social structure tends to accept this sort of abuse, and not only to accept – we have laws, we have bills that vitally support the existence of these sex establishments.

If you gave a shit about Thai culture you would understand that prositition is not leaving Thailand.

First, in fact I do NOT give neither a shit nor a f**k about Thai culture. Never been there, never plan to go there, neither fur mongering nor for other reasons. My point was that mongers live in a bubble and think mongering is what makes the world go round. Not true.
Second, obviously prostitution is not leaving Thailand because 90% or more is domestic demand by Thai men. The sex tourism started in the Vietnam war aa way to create ties to the US military, who hopefully would then keep Thailand free of communism. Now that Thailand no longer needs the US military for that purpose, the only reason for sex tourism is money. The day cost of bad publicity due to sex tourism outweighs benefits of sex tourism (benefits to the Thai ruling class, I mean, not benefits to the mongers) is the day sex tourism gets shut down. The Thai ruling class is all about money into their pockets, not helping mongers get their rocks off. If you really cared about Thai culture, you would agree.
Thank you for letting me lay down the Law on this topic.

Re: Thai gov cracking down on prostitution
They are not really banning prostitution. They are taking it out of sight, like in America. Prostitution is rampant in America but only for those who are in the club of the devil.drronnie wrote:http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/932 ... er-police/

Really, it is a fine idea. Imagine there are 1000 hot young women and 100000 men who want to f**k them. Would you want a bunch of fat ugly old worthless thieving shit sacks who own nothing to fck those hotties before you? How about a donkey dicked man animal hybrid who wrecks the girls? No? So why should the powerful devils share?
