Opening scene of Blade Runner

Post by Winston »

Why do many sci fi fans consider this to be the greatest film ever made? I rented it in the 80's and could never figure out what it was about. The dialogue and pace seemed so slow. Any of you ever understand it?

Nice special effects though. Way better than the CGI today.

This film was way ahead of its time (as was 2001: A Space Odyssey...also WAY ahead of its time). Interesting to note that the music for this was by Vangelis, who was more famous for his music in Chariots of Fire. He actually goes all the way back to the Greek pop group Aphrodite's Child (the original group), where he played keyboards. You can see their music here:

BR is about what it means to be human, intelligent, sentient and alive.

If you knew the day you would die, would you behave nobly or not? Would you save the life of the man trying to kill you, or not?

This is one of my favorite movies.

The director's cut adds a twist that was not as apparent in the original with the voice over narration and happy ending.

I think that Blade Runner signified the sign of the times. Acid rain...always raining from the post-nuclear fallout.

The barbaricism (if that's such a word) of how the humans acted in that motion picture et al.
