When your favorite waitress quits, how many of you also stay away indefinitely?

For almost 3 years, almost every time I came down to Fort Myers Beach, I would have dinner on the beach. My favorite and most preferred restaurant was Plaka, located in that Times Square plaza adjacent to the pier. And for 2 and a half of those years, I had a great, great waitress there. I had lots of great conversations with her, we shared stories together, I enjoyed her stories and I shared some of mine with her. I went and ate there every 2 to 4 weeks and always enjoyed having her as my waitress. She was a one of a kind, and one of the top ten best waitresses I ever had. I would even say easily a once every 350 years type of waitress.

Well, not only is she no longer waitressing at Plaka anymore, but she has also left the restaurant industry. And the new servers at Plaka make me feel uncomfortable even though I have not gone back to Plaka since the last time I was served by my favorite waitress there. And I have even vowed to stay away from Plaka indefinitely aka it could be 5 or possibly as long as 15 years before I decide to eat there again.

I wonder if there are other people on this forum that feel the same way too, aka when their favorite waitress at their favorite restaurant leaves, they don't go back to that restaurant anymore either.

I don't think many guys here have a "favorite waitress" because most of us are not in a position financially to be able to eat out.

I never had such a feeling like that for a waitress.
I am going to restaurants for eating, if there is a little chat, OK, but if not, then not...
I also see no need to eat always in the same restaurants. It is OK to change them and to try other places and food too.
There are some people known in the States, able to eat every day up to 3 times at McDonalds since 30 years, but I could never do that.

Meeting waitresses is fun, but it seems to me that you have constructed an unhealthy, one-sided relationship with her. Waitresses are there to provide a service which includes making guests feel welcome and happy. She did her job well.

Where I see the problem is you did not have a relationship established with her outside the restaurant. That being the case, you had nothing.

Next time, exchange contact information and get together.

On a personal note, I once dated a waitress in another country. She was quite attractive, and doted on me whenever I visited. We then began a relationship outside the restaurant and I got to know the real person. In short, she was quite different, insecure, and a minor headcase. Needless to say, I dumped her when I saw the red flags.

The lesson there for me is that girls in the service industry are there to make you feel good and come back. The real person is not apparent to you while they are on the job so get to know them OFF the job.

Again, in America, friendships are a façade. Fake, superficial, and fleeting. And again, seeing that you knew her for 2 and a half years, if this waitress were a true friend, she could have taken you to Disney World a long time ago. I am assuming she probably didn't because, once again, this is America.

Stay away from her man! She is American/Americanized. This is America. Americans are toxic people that need to be avoided. I have seen some of the nicest waitresses in society quickly turn toxic, hateful, paranoid, and standoffish; I have seen them become prison terms and restraining orders just waiting to happen within less than a week of them getting into a different field of work. I've seen former customers hurt and crushed just bumping into their favorite former waitresses at concerts or festivals. Even threatened outright with police involvement; in fact, just the other day I was at the Georgia Aquarium and saw a guy approach a woman and tell her that he remembered her from some restaurant (I didn't exactly get the name of it). She scurried away from him and then a minute later I saw him being escorted out by four police officers telling him that he was not allowed to have any contact with her.

Hardly. People in hospitality never know which 'random' is going to be their big break to an easier life, or at least put a generous dent in the month's rent. Making you feel special helps in that process.

Fear of rejection. Fear of finality. If he asks her out and she refuses then him coming back to the restaurant is just creepy... Him not asking her out kept the fantasy alive for 3 years.

Besides if a woman is interested in you she will send out signals.
