I have heard of this theory and some of the parallels with human behavior strike me as significant.

In short, the "Mouse Utopia Experiment" was one where food abundance and safety was guaranteed to all without much competition. The related parallels are that the female rats became either hypergamous and chose the strongest rats (alpha males), or reverted into all-female, male-hostile enclaves (like modern day feminists).

The dominant male rats had domain over the choicest females (The human 80/20 rule), and the leftover males became homosexual or socially isolated "beautiful ones."

The experiment does seem to suggest that abundance for women, above and beyond what is normal, does cause mating choices to revert to more primal patterns. While rats are far less complex than humans, it is a great argument for requiring women to compete for resources rather than just handing them resources. If Western women had to compete for men and their resources, the balance of value between men and women would remain symbiotic instead of hostile. Abundance above the norm, such as that which exists in developed economies, creates distance between the sexes and the experient is great at illustrating that.

This is the beauty of Western men choosing women from societies with weak social welfare systems so that their value as men can be maximized instead of minimized like in the West.

Women have it very easy in western countries, either the government or men give them everything they need. Women from non western countries are a much better fit for dating and marriage as they are not handed everything on a silver platter like western women have.

Fascinating. We are overpopulated and yet also, in western countries, do have much more abundance of stuff and easily-accessible food (if you're not too poor, of course) than our ancestors ever did.
