Notice how judgemental people are?

Post by Tamingstrange »

I don't know if this is a Western thing or a global thing, but something I've noticed about people is their tendency to sit on a high horse and judge others and point fingers at them. Calling them out on thier "flaws." Yet, they don't seem to have the insight and ability to self reflect and see thier own flaws.

I'll admit, I have problems. I have some anger issues, I don't take criticism well, I have a hard time putting my foot down. Just to name a few.

I've especially noticed this on places such as Reddit forums and the YouTube comment section. There are times where I'll post a harmless comment, only to be attacked by a bunch commenters who completely twist my words around, insult me, call me names and act like a bunch pseudo psychologists saying "This or that it s wrong with you" as if they've known me personally for years. It irritates the hell out of me.

That's just the way it is. Any time a man opens his mouth, he opens himself up to criticism from others. In fact, many people play semantics. Once I discover a person is like that, I just minimize my contact with them. This is primarily unavoidable, but it does reveal who you don't want to engage in conversation with.

At first it seems personal because personal type insults are used, but it's not about you at all. It's about them.

Read the Psalms, king David sings to God about this kind of thing. See Psalm 56:5, for example.
Prudence is the knowledge of things to be sought, and those to be shunned.

It does seem as if people in western countries are very judge mental of others. Conformity seems to the hive mentality of people in the west.
"When I think about the idea of getting involved with an American woman, I don't know if I should laugh .............. or vomit!"

"Trying to meet women in America is like trying to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics."

True, but you could say that about a lot of Asian cultures as well.

Being judgmental can be appropriate if it is justified. The problem is with people who are judgmental simply because another person does something different or unfamiliar to them. Those are the toxic idiots that need to be ignored with an eyeroll.

Asians are no less judgmental than us Westerners and their hive (or sheep) mentality doesn't seem much better than ours. I think it's part of the human condition, to see someone else with the filter of one's own beliefs and preconceptions. It's a form or protection. There are some judgment call that are meant to keep us safe - few people would welcome an armed thug in their home on the basis that "noone deserves to be judged based on past actions".

There are judgment calls that we make, which are simply dictated by our own ignorance (in the sense of "not knowing" or "not wanting to know") of other people's personality and life circumstances, or of objective facts of life. Against, these judgment calls are meant to make us feel safer, in the small garden of our certainties, but that doesn't mean we are right, or they represent the truth.

Truly strong and wise people rarely judge. They just let people be and rejoice when they're reaping the fruits of their fortunate choices, and maybe try to help and advise when they see them pay the consequences of not-so-fortunate choices.

Very well said. I wish you could sometimes put your own advice into pratice.
