50% of Thai girls have only been with one man their entire life according to surveys. The average age that girls get married is 21 years old. 25% marry before they are even 18 years old. People there don’t have any “f***ing around” phase of their lives. In the rural areas people sometimes arrange marriages for their kids to people they know in the village.

I really don't know how mandatory parental consent is considered in Thailand. I think it is considered very important. In Indonesia it sure is. While it is technically possible to get married without parental consent, culturally, it is just something a lot of them will not do. It's an area of life where one is expected to honor parents. I do know one of my wife's relatives who was Muslim, ran away from home, got baptized and married without her mother's permission. I don't know if her dad was really much a part of her life. They reconciled later, but the mother brought the story up when I was at a family gathering, so it was not forgotten.

The civil registrar for my wedding specifically asked if my then-fiancee's parents agreed to the wedding. If they had not, I got the feeling she might not have issued the certificate.

Why don't you interview some Thai women and ask them directly? There are cultures where divorce is frowned upon and a lot of women will tolerate a man sleeping around in order to stay married, but that doesn't mean they would have chosen to go into the marriage if they had known that is the case.

There is also threat of committing adultery as a tool to motivate a woman to perform at a high level of diligence in the bedroom. I've read about that as a strategy. But, of course, that is immoral and cruel. But staying fit, looking good, being skilled, respected, competent and being desirable in other ways might affect them in the same way to some extent on an instinctual level without the cruelty.

So you are looking for the turnip-picking poor farm girl, instead of the well-to-do city career girl. I get it. The downside is such girls would be less likely to speak English, so getting the relationship going might be difficult.

That being said, my wife had a cousin in the village who went to study in the city at a university, and her English was good. Her sister's English was not so good. Some of the farm village girls can study and learn English, too. But it is less likely than the city girl.

A lot of Asians want their sons to match up with educated girls, but there are advantages to marrying the poor traditional girl who grew up hand-scrubbing the laundry instead of telling the maid to do it.
