If North Korea is so bad then why do their women look so much more beautiful and happier than western women?

I've seen pictures of western women with bigger smiles than these. What does looking happy for a picture tell you about a woman? That she can smile for a camera?

And these are cherry-picked pictures of nice-looking to beautiful women that you posted. Just like in the US, most women don't look that good. Your dealing with the right side of the bell curve there for looks. Maybe they have more to the right of the midpoint of the bell curve compared to the US nowadays because so much of the US is so fat. North Koreans probably have the problem of women being too skinny.

Back in the 1990's, I spoke with a South Korean who said the North Koreans shouted across the microphone over the DMZ on day, "Come and join us. We ate meat today!" The South Koreans answered, "We eat meat every day."

You have no idea about how the North Korean system is functioning.

Not everybody in North Korea is beautiful and happy.

This has nothing to do with men or women, all North Korean citizens are classified into various groups, this system is called Songbun 성분
Some have a good life, but many are suffering and barely survive. Marked for life.

North Koreans were estimated to be split by their government into three groups:‍

Core (핵심), 28% of the population
Wavering (동요), 45%
Hostile (적대), 27%

There are again about 50 subdivisions in those 3 main groups, for example core has a smaller elite core group, and a larger opportunity group.

This system, which the citizen cannot change, has a big influence of daily life, like how much food is available, medical treatment, where this person is allowed to live in North Korea, education, job and income, housing and family and so on.

Citizens can easily be lowered in value and forced to move to remote areas, but it is more difficult for them to climb up in value and improve their status.

Of course, some women and some men have a good life, nothing really missing as they have no information from outside and cannot compare, just following orders - they might be around 7 million of them. Many people of this upper class are living in the capital Pyongyang 평양시 which is not such a small city with about 3 million people.

About 11 million people survive, not bad, not good....a very modest life.

and others who might be around 8 million people or so - not their fault - belong to the lowest category and don't even know what to eat tomorrow and are in rags....they are in deep poverty. These places of course are located in remote rural areas and are off limit to foreigners.

In North Korea they always punish the entire family, and in case of some minor problems even, it is known that the entire family was kicked out of Pyongyang and transferred to any rural area, working on a farm with no way ever to return. Not in prison, but they 'disappear'.
North Korean citizens are not allowed to travel within their own country without permission.

I never heard that North Koreans have been sent to a labor camp or to a coal mine solely because of a wrong hair-cut (which is a recommendation, not an order).

Reports about life in North Korea are coming in mainly from South Korea where now more than 30.000 North Koreans are living who escaped.

Be aware in North Korea such hair styles are also recommended for men...not only for women.
