All I have here is anecdotal evidence of course, but there are some girls who are into men who are strong. Period. Like just strong dudes with big arms who look like they can protect her, even if the guy isn't tall or facially handsome. Being buff doesn't always help one get girls, necessarily, but it doesn't hurt either. And it also gives a man greater personal confidence which is also a bonus because his aura changes when his confidence levels go up. That said, most girls aren't into the hyper-buff type of body. Veiny, over-the-top muscular dudes aren't attractive to the majority of women. But such a man does command more respect than someone scrawny. It would probably be better for a short and ugly dude to at least be physically strong, so even if he may not be seen as attractive, at least he would not be seen as a loser, either. It would probably feel good for such a man to know that he could potentially beat up the pretty boys that get most of the chicks lol.

Looking physically fit and having some level of muscle mass definitely does confer an advantage.

Even if you are just toned and with a moderate amount of definition, you still look fitter than most other guys and should therefore be perceived as more attractive than guys who are pudgy, scrawny or skinny-fat, all other things being equal. Of course, it's not the be-all end-all, but a guy can use a fit and decently toned body to compensate for a below-average face.

There is a subset of girls who go crazy for muscles though. Here I mean a naturally obtainable level of muscle mass, not necessarily the unnatural roided-up bodybuilder look. Muscles really get some girls wet and horny. Since the majority of guys today are unfit and look like shit body-wise, developing a good level of muscle mass will naturally make you stand out as desirable to that kind of girl.

You don't even need to become a mass monster like today's bodybuilders. That kind of extreme physique only appeals to a very small niche of women because it's so unnatural and ugly.

Anecdotally, I've been in good shape for much of my adult life. I have the physique of a MMA fighter rather than a bodybuilder. Being in good shape has definitely got me desired attention from certain Latinas and other types of women too. Women typically treat me better when I'm sporting an athletic MMA fighter physique. People in general respect me more.

I agree with @Lucas88 and @MarcosZeitola, but you could also say there is some objective proof insofar as there's scientific studies showing women becoming primally aroused by men with higher testosterone and other specific male sexual hormones. (I don't have time to get into detail right now even though I like the subject, but there was some good info on this in the Ferriss book "The Four Hour Body," FYI to anyone interested. I think titles like "The Science of Romance" among others also had some interesting stuff about this...)

Also, even though women obviously like handsome guys, they get genuinely turned on by confidence and primal masculinity and sometimes I've seen them get the genuine hots for surprisingly non-handsome men, so the more lean muscle mass and higher testosterone a man can naturally build up, the more it'll help him with those things, even if he's average or below average in looks.
