Russia is an extremely racist country. More so than the United States in my opinion. Lots of skinheads and fascist groups are in the country. The women in Russia are beautiful but the men are a*shole* in general. Unless your white and Christian, I wouldn't recommend living in the country.

It was not my experience that the Russians hate Americans. On the contrary, they were very interested in meeting me and buying me drinks. One mafia guy even bought me a whole bottle of English gin. I don't like gin, but I sure didn't want to refuse his generosity and risk pissing him off. I especially enjoyed talking with the older babushki (grandmas/widows) and older gentlemen. They were full of stories and were so kind. I'll never forget one old man who was in the Soviet merchant marines during WWII. He visited the US on his trips and just loved his time there and was thrilled to meet an American again.

Don't sell the Russians short. They have a thick outer layer, but they are incredibly kind and generous people, once you get to know them. Just stay away from the jerks and players, like you would in any country, or you'll get what you'd expect. Find the real Russians in the smaller towns.

What Americans? This was about the reception of a black Brazilian who was playing football there, and not about the reception of American guests by the Russians.

Again, personal experiences especially by a person who:

1) is a temporary a visitor spending money there
2) does not speak the language
3) is from a country that is richer than it

Differ from those of who:

1) live/work/( try to) make a living there
2) understand and speak the language
3) do not come from a country richer than it

like heaven differs from hell.

I thought both Japan and Thailand were great when I was a visitor and did not speak the languages. When I learned those languages and started living/earning money there I was very soon sent scampering back home with a tail in between my legs.
A brain is a terrible thing to wash!

The last sentence of rome86's original post mentions his opinion that many Russians hate Americans and that the World Cup will be a disaster, since Russians don't like Westerners. For the record, I did live there, despite not being native, and I speak that language reasonably well. I wasn't there as a tourist, but I take your point.

Oh, my apologies, I was not careful reading the whole thing. Oh, definitely not! Russians do like Americans especially those who are Russian speaking. All the anti-American propaganda in Russia was directed against the US government and great care was taken to show that American people were very good but they had a very bad government which oppressed them. The same goes for all Westerners except Germans and Jews/Israelis where both the government and the people were bad.
The US propaganda did show the Russian people as evil, humorless and cruel ( that is, their men) while showing the Russian women in a good light - always wanting to run away and marry an American. After the end of the Cold War, they fell under the same category as war brides- the spoil of the winners.

For Those Tall & Blonde Ladies. If Not Russia Then I suggest The Blonde Ladies at
Southern Brazil. ( Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catatrina Londrina Parana Etc.)

For please remember that unlike the Stereotype Dark Skinned & Dark Haired Brazilian it
is at Southern Brazil where The Blondes are who are Brazilian of The German Ancestry.
