Need help on determining if this is a scam.

Post by Saturn »

To make a long story short I've been chatting and camming online with a Filipina girl for about 8 months now.

She disappeared for a few days and then claims she has dengue fever. She was on cam, in a hospital bed hooked up to IVs. I could see a certificate in the background.

Of course, she wants money to pay for this.

My question is how easy would it be to set up a 'fake' hospital situation like that? If she paid the hospital a small amount of money to 'set up camp', would they agree? I know filipinos often collaborate together to execute scams.

I need some advice.

Doesn't PI have Universal Health Care? Is this your wife? Have you had sex? Do you love her?

If all the answers are NO, then why in the hell would you even consider or ask if its a scam to send her money???????????????

Sounds kinda fishy to me. If I were you, I would ask the doctor that is treating her to appear on the cam and email you his credentials. That way, at least you can be somewhat sure that her dengue fever is indeed legitimate. Otherwise, I would not send her the money.

Free universal health care in the Philippines? LOL What planet did you hear THAT from?
There is a "public health care" system available at reduced rates and possibly bad care...typically if one has any options at all, you avoid the public hospitals like the plague.
Typically one way or the other, if you owe a bill, you cannot leave till it is paid...

If you have some money, private care can be decent and affordable however. That said, the rate of
various medical emergencies with Filipinas in contact with Westerners is amazing! LOL!

In all cases proceed with caution and "trust but verify" and if you cannot verify, do not trust!
Most medical emergencies you hear about will be scams...only a few will be legitimate.

I didn't hear that anywhere I just made a statement be it fact or fiction I really don't care. PI is a poor country it couldn't possibly support a bloated and expensive system we have, that was the general point I was making.

The rest of it stands, stop bailing out women, especially when they don't "belong" to you. If that's your wife then you do what you're suppose to do, if not, then forget it.

If you've never met her, don't send her any money. Teach her that crime doesn't pay.

Why don't you use the screen capture feature of your webcam and post screenshots of her in the hospital, so we can all see the setup?

Most likely the deal is contrived...a lot of these girls will pull stuff like this without embarrassment...part of the national disease of corruption in the Philippines....

I think there's a couple separate questions here. How much did she ask you to send - the full amount or a small amount to "help" with the bill? Personally I would not send anything to someone who I am not in a real relationship with. So that would solve the issue of whether to help with the bill or not.

As to the issue of whether she has dengue fever or not and therefore whether you can trust her in the future, it's a pretty serious illness. My ex-gf had it (no I did not help pay the hospital) and when she came out she had lost a bunch of weight and looked like hell. It was kinda hard to fake that holocaust survivor thin look.

BTW, it shouldn't be too hard to confirm what hospital she is in, should it?
