Anyone had luck with long-tail keywords?

I have been working on my SEO, interlinking and what key words to target on new pages. I was wondering if anyone has had success with long tail keywords? I recently read this article http://blog.2createawebsite.com/2013/02 ... backlinks/ and she seemed to be doing very well by targeting long tail phrases if she is telling the truth anyways.
