I hear that some Koreans do sometimes look down on native Philippines people but if they do . There is about 100,000 Korean people living in the Philippines. Most are retirees. I hear stories of local Philippines killing Korean people. For the expats that live there is this the case? There are a growing number of Korean men who do sex tourism in the Philippines too and some of the Korean men do look for wives also. Most of them bring the wives back to Korea however.
I have to add I hear western expats sometimes act like assholes in the Philippines too . But because they are white do the Philippines let them get away with it?
Is it possible that local Philippines are jealous of Koreans and have bitterness ? I mean Koreans are Asian people where as a white guy or white person is judge differently.
Think about how Japanese people look down on other Asians but when they see a black or white person it;s a different judgement system. So in other words because of white privilege and I hate to say this the Philippines people might worship white people they let white people get away with acting like jackass but for other Asians the judgement is different. In other words the Philippines may think Koreans are not too different since they are Asians but Korean people will act like they are better due to economic condition and therefore this will cause local Philippines to be jealous.

There used to be a semi-frequent Fil-Am poster, mguy, who sometimes talked about a dynamic of Filipinos randomly beating up Korean guys, especially at night, due to their awful attitudes and the way they carry themselves.
Yes, from my on the ground observations, a significant percentage of Koreans I see here in Metro Manila act snobby and standoffish towards the locals. Sometimes the Korean women walk around like princesses or at best, just completely ignore non-Koreans. And Filipinos seem to often focus a lot on attitude when evaluating a person.
Koreans are also infamous as bosses about anywhere you go. To work for a Korean is to hate a Korean (with exceptions of course) lol. That applies even to white English teachers. But for brown people, it might even be worse. Many Koreans have set-up businesses and employ locals to do a lot of the more tedious or dirty work. Guess how they often treat locals working for them.
Koreans are unlike any other foreign group here. They seem to have their own mafia and networks and are almost like quasi locals in some regards.
There are many Asian countries besides Korea close to Philippines including populations where ESL is a very popular such as Taiwan, Japan, China, and even Thailand. But for some reason, it's predominantly the Koreans come here in droves to learn English, establish business, settle in Korean mini ghettos, retire, or even tour.
Given the massive increase of Chinese tourists to neighboring Thailand (1 mn expected in to visit in September alone), I'm surprised they haven't picked up on the Philippines as a place to learn English cheaply and started crowding out the Koreans. I guess for the time being, national politics and the ripple down effect is keeping them out. They certainly seem to be overtaking all other tourist groups in Thailand and perhaps certain other Asian countries though.
Anyway, about anyone who has been around Koreans in groups a lot will probably tell you that they can seem very closed and snobby, much more so than Asian visitors from other countries in the region. Many of the locals I know seem to have a very different impression of Japanese than Koreans and hold the former in a much more favorable light than the latter. Japanese just tend to behave in a much more humble and modest fashion IMO. That goes down well with people here though it would be even better if they acted in a more fun loving outgoing fashion.
Mainland Chinese can act dirty and even rude but they tend not to be closed and snobby like the Koreans often seem to be. And in my little neck of the woods, there are lot of Chinese working here, many in the online gaming industry. The largest foreign group in my building is Chinese.
Bottom line, if Koreans garner any contempt from locals, I can understand that. They just stand-out in their stand-offishness lol and are often slave driver bosses. They probably also compete in clubs sometimes for the girls local men find more attractive since they are not cursed (or blessed) with the exotic (short brow slim and native) taste so majority of white guys here lol.

Rock: I would say your comments about Koreans are pretty brutal and sans political correctness, but it's truthful in some areas. But I wouldn't say all Koreans are like this. I also think that you may be a little biased in that you don't like me very much--and since I'm Korean American--that has somewhat negatively influenced your opinion of Koreans. Fair enough, but again, there's lots of good Koreans too.

1. I never think about zboy when evaluating Koreans. He doesn't even enter my thoughts on that as I've never met the guy and have no idea what impression he gives in person. Anyway he's not Korean from Korea, he's Korean American, an entirely different can of worms.

4. Koreans are unlike other Asian foreigners here cus they have a much larger presence. When a foreign group reaches a certain size, they start to create stronger impressions among their hosts than if they remain small. Chinese have of course localized to an extent her in past generations (Chinoys). So have Indians. Now some still foreign Koreans may be heading in a similar direction. The extent to which a group integrates or remains distinct depends on a large array of factors. Thai Chinese seem to be much more integrated into their host culture than say Indonesian Chinese for example. I suspect Koreans, if they continue to penetrate this country for generations going forward, will be a lot more like the latter.

My last boss when I worked was a Korean (but one who had grown up as son of diplomat in various parts of the world). I currently have Korean tenants in 3 different condos. I eat Korean food at least once a week here. I've dated 2 different Korean girls in Taiwan and another one for awhile in Seoul. My building has a large percentage of Koreans but even more mainland Chinese.
6. Perhaps some Koreans are the friendliest folks on the planet once you get to know them well. But perception and reality can be two different animals. In spite of the global rise of Korean pop culture, groups of Koreans still seem to be from a different world to many of those in Filipino culture. Overseas Koreans tend to stick in very close tight knit groups and for the most part wanna keep things in their own language. Some of my Filipino friends have told me that in university, the Korean students tend to separate themselves out and stick to their own study and social cliques for the most part even if some Korean guys do date Filipinas. Other foreigners might do this too if they have large enough numbers. But they generally don't. So being more isolated, other foreigners tend have more pressure to go further towards social integration here.

But, with the exception of local Filipinos of course, most Asian expats gravitate more towards Vietnam or China if they are looking for a 3rd world girl. In general (meaning the majority of) Koreans view themselves as the superior race, above all else. Korean pride is enormous maybe worse than Japanese. On the surface they can be quite friendly giving good face but in private may view you as something less. Any person with dark skin, not wearing designer clothes, not well educated, not driving a Porsche, BMW or Mercedes, is viewed below a Korean. It is most notable that Koreans hate to be around black people, it makes them very uncomfortable as black people are viewed as amusing but beneath them. They also trust no one but themselves, Korean store owners will Always run the cash register.
So if you apply the above to Phils then you will get the idea. Its not just about Filipinos, its about virtually any other nationality.

I have to add as a korean person and kind of knowing the insight of korean culture. Korea is a culture where you have to be introduce to know them . Cold approaches doesnt really work on korean people. The way they are raise is to be standoffish believe it or not koreans do it to other koreans .

In matter of fact they do that to each other but once your close to them its like boiling water . They become warmer later on.
I mean in korea they drink allot and thats one way of getting close to them. To koreans they value status . After the korea war . Korea was dirt poor but due to hard work they overcame. So to korean people when they see other countries that has not develop like them they think they are either lazy or something.

There is no such thing as perference for japanese over koreans...thats just silly
Though since the entertainer/japayuki stigma is not attached to when dating/marrying korean men...you will see alot more filipina women open to marrying/dating koreans

some filipino men never considered western men as competition as they went for filipinas who filipino men did not generally find attractive.
Filipino men may find koreans as a threat as they seem to be scooping up whats considered Class A type filipinas for filipino men (Light skin and almond shaped eyes almost NEA looking)

These are considered country bumpkins by "high class" Filipinos because of the Spanish cast system hammered into them over the centuries. Hence, there's little jealousy. "You can have them- they all look ugly, anyway!". The paragon of beauty is what we see in Honduras/Mexico. This is "beautiful":

If Western guys like Mexican-looking girls or Japanese-looking girls, they don't go to the Philippines for those. They go because they want hot and spicy brown Malay types.

Of course, it cannot be denied that some Koreans in Cebu are sex-tourists or otherwise into illegal activity but for sure they do not present the majority. As a fact all countries worldwide have to deal with some foreign criminals of any nationality.
In Cebu, when young people try to get a job, at least only for a few months, it seems they prefer to apply first with Japanese companies and not with Korean companies however. Some production workers told me, while pay is very little everywhere in Cebu, Japanese companies are still willing to pay a little more and do not kick out workers from one day to the other, they also said that Japanese staff is more patient and always polite with them compared to Korean staff.

I've heard that Koreans are not well liked in the Philippines because their presence there doesn't do much to benefit the locals. They arrive in large tour groups. They stay in Korean owned hotels and eat at Korean owned restaurants. They surround themselves with other Koreans and show no interest in interacting with the locals. They don't try the local cuisine. They'd rather eat the ramen and drink the soju that they've brought with them from Korea. It seems that Koreans rub a lot of people the wrong way. Look at some of the complaints about them on ESL boards. They are by far the most ethnocentric and nationalistic group of Asians that I've encountered. Talking to a Korean about their country often feels like talking to a member of a cult. They've rewritten history to inspire a delusional level of pride in their race and nation. Koreans recently celebrated Liberation Day and once again they pretended that the US had nothing to do with Korea's liberation from Japan. The truth is that the US's decision to nuke Japan resulted in the liberation of Korea from Japan. Korean efforts to liberate themselves were 100% unsuccessful. Yet President Park made no mention of the role that the US played on that day when she addressed the nation.
