Prevalence of tattoos.

One thing that stuck out to me in China, Indonesia, and the Philippines was the prevalence of tattoos. I already know it has proliferated the US, but China kind of stuck out to me. Bali has a history of it, so not as shocking, but even the Philippines had a lot.I don't mean to make a big deal out of personal choices, but it does worry me that other things from the West will spread easily. Some of the people I hung out with had tattoos, but their personalities and kindness made up for it, so in and of itself is not a disqualifier, but it does make me worry a bit. Does any fellow travelers have any thoughts? It seems like it was not as common in Latin America as Asia, but still lower than the US

What makes you think it came from US? China is close to Japan and Japanese have a big tattoo culture.
