You think it's only Americans? Really? It's always big news when it happens with Americans because America harps on human rights way too much....often using it as an excuse to engage in conflict.
FYI, this kind of shit happens in any conflict, and from every side.
Unfortunately, no military can micromanage every little thing that goes on in a warzone.
I'm already expecting some news out of Libya that we Americans accidentally bombed a hospital or something...could be made up or real...but it's part and parcel of war.

keius, I think you are missing the point. Watch the videos. The attitude is so American. Killing people for fun. Typical of shallow assholes. I know that there are accidents in war. Sometimes there are atrocities caused by hatred of the other side. But the attitude in these videos is distinctly American and reminds me of why I can't live around Americans.

How have you managed to cope all these years living in the states before your move to the Mexican state of El Paso? BTW, I mostly dislike Americans too. I was stopped by an officer late last night. I was the only one on the road. Got a ticket for nothing except to pay for that asshole's salary.fschmidt wrote:http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/ne ... m-20110327

This is despicable - but at least they are likely to be punished for it (and possibly hung). Some of the soldiers were also abusing drugs, so they were malcontents to begin with - although American society is becoming ever more dysfunctional, the average American does not abuse drugs.fschmidt wrote:http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/ne ... m-20110327

It must also be kept in mind that the Islamists commit such atrocities with disturbing regularity (and sometimes with many more fatalities).
It is a sad fact of human nature that, ultimately, anyone can commit these sorts of atrocities.
There are many good reasons to detest the Anglosphere, but this isn't really one of them.
This is not typical behavior for American soldiers. The attitude is not American. The vast majority of Americans would be horrified by this. As a nation, we are simply too liberal/PC to find this behavior acceptable. Typical for shallow assholes maybe but these kind of assholes exist everywhere. It is much more prevalent in cultures where there is simply more "elitism". These kind of people believe that they are simply superior or better than others and tend to dehumanize certain subsets of humanity....fschmidt wrote:keius, I think you are missing the point. In warzones, these kind of people are away from civilized environments and feel that they can get away with such behavior. War also tends to desensitize/dehumanize soldiers and in many ways releases them from the trappings of civilization.
In other countries or cultures, this kind of behavior can happen with all too much frequency, even away from warzones.
Like DaRick said, attributing this behavior to all Americans, in a general sense, makes no sense

I'll give you one thing though, i wonder if these soldiers hail from a "white trash / redneck" background. I've traveled the US extensively and the only time i've encountered these kind of attitudes are from some rednecks... They were extremely racist and very vocal about it. Obviously, a small chunk of the American military hails from this kind of background.
This is the most cruel and cynical generation in history. That's what the video games and all that was created for. Being in the reptilian brain state is like being a psychopath. I heard a clip of Alan Watt saying troops are coming back with certain parts of their brains shrunk as part of the effect of the drugs they are given (probably under cover of vaccines).

Play a first person shooter online for 30 minutes and you'll feel the transformation. You'll think more like beast than man and all you'll want is food & sex. Video games concentrate specific parts of the brain to the point where some areas are deprived of oxygen. That's where that dizzy feeling comes from. The troops are stuck in this cruel brain mode and the fact that most of them are 18 year old low iq uneducated dumbasses who are gullible to the racism and propaganda they are fed..doesn't help.

You won't get this stuff on the news. And this isn't the really bad stuff. People in the west are so naive. You have to realize that reality and what the media gives you ESPECIALLY REGARDING WARS is like comparing chocolate with shit. And this is a fake war, against neo-con created enemies that more or less don't exist. Imagine if these psychopaths aka my dimwitted peers were in a real war, (i.e. WWII or Korea), what atrocities they'd manage.

Unless you've had some serious brain injury where it has to reconfigure itself, the left hemisphere controls the right hand, and vise versa.
The school system is good at trapping us in left-brain thinking.
They get angry with left handed children. And tell us:
left-out
left-overs
etc.
vs
right-on
righteous
There is a war on your mind.
Try this simple exercise!

Yeah, that's what Shakespeare meant by "unleashing the dogs of war." Sociopaths, bumbling incompetents and the like are in their element in a combat theater, and every country has them. But what country is involved in almost every war that takes place now? What country spends as much on weaponry as the rest of the world combined, and has built its economy around a sort of "military Keynesianism" that requires the annual funneling of hundreds of billions to "defense" contractors? What country glorifies the military, to the degree of making nationalist and militarist displays at all of its athletic events? Let me know if you don't know the answer.keius wrote:You think it's only Americans? Really? Yes, but unless heavy military spending is required to commit atrocities, I don't see how this is relevant.gsjackson wrote:Yeah, that's what Shakespeare meant by "unleashing the dogs of war."
