It's Russian soldiers who will come home in body bags. Actually, Russia doesn't want their dead soldiers back because then they will have to pay compensation to the families.

Many Russian families will never see a single rubel as compensation, and many Russian soldiers who survived so far are still waiting for their salaries.
It's a shame, I feel sorry for them, they too are regrettable victims of a war which does not make any sense.

However Putin is a clever person, never underestimate his power. He fully understands that USA has other things to do now, there is still Israel, which always has priority, and it is still unclear who will be the next president. USA is just now a legal mess...

He also knows that EU/NATO are rather late to accept the fact that they are poorly prepared for any major military conflict. Simply said, Western countries, but especially Continental European countries were trusting Russia too much, were believing in peace and good commercial links...

Putin indeed is winning a lot of time, but he never expected such a strong reaction from Western countries after the invasion of Ukraine.

His 'special military operation' is going on now since more than 2 years. He cannot continue for always like that, after a few years more Russia will become considerably poorer and also weaker, Russian military power is not unlimited.

I am confident that Western countries will sort it out within 2024/2025. They did not expect the Russian invasion of the entire territory of Ukraine.

Finland and Sweden made already their political decision to join NATO, countries even far away like Australia and Japan are sending support materials to Ukraine, Western European governments are pushing their factories to produce more weapons as soon as possible, and UK also has to do more about improving its military....

This all cannot be done within a few months, it takes time to update - however I have to say, that Ukraine which is not an EU/NATO member already received a surprisingly huge support to defend itself against Russia. - Without this Western support, Ukraine and likely also Moldova might be a part of 'New Russia' already.

Japan still fulfill it's 9% of energy needs on Russian Natural gas despite their dispute with Russia regarding the Kuril islands.

Long-term investments cannot be stopped quickly, what can be done however is to reduce Russian imports slowly, old contracts expire, new contracts are about buying less...and of course it is about to find new suppliers which will replace Russia.

The first step which was done already was to reduce import of coal from Russia and this is now done. Import of coal from Russia is zero, Australia was taking over.

The next step is to reduce the import of crude oil and LNG, now Russian crude oil import is 5 % and LNG is now 9 %. Not such a big amount.
There are still contracts regarding Japanese investments in Sakhalin projects. Russia, USA (investors Exxon/Shell) and Japan agreed to continue as it is now - for how long is the question.

USA, some Middle East countries and also Indonesia/Malaysia/Brunei are already suppliers to Japan and agreed to replace such imports from Russia by selling more to Japan. To replace 5 % crude oil import and 9 % LNG import with other suppliers and with starting again some more Japanese nuclear power plants is not such a huge issue.

Russia has a track record of putting foreign officials on wanted lists, but this latest move makes Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas the first foreign head of government to be sought by Russian police. Estonian Secretary of State Taimar Peterkop and Lithuanian Culture Minister Simonas Kairys are also on the list, along with dozens of other Baltic and Polish politicians.

A Russian security source told the TASS state news agency that the Kremlin is seeking to prosecute Kallas and Peterkop for the “destruction and defacement of monuments [honouring] Soviet soldiers” along with the Lithuanian minister of culture, Simonas Kairys.

“These wanted notices are Russia’s way of saying: ‘You come under Russian legislation and we consider you still, more or less, part of the Russian Empire,’” says historian Cécile Vaissié, professor of Russian and Soviet studies at Rennes-ll University.

Japan is importing oil from USA, it is usually used for military (including US-military in Japan, as Japan pays about 80 percent of all expenses, like salaries for US servicemen, housing, ammunition, food but also the fuel for US ships, airplanes etc.

I am in Japan, not in Europe, on the other side of Russia...

Russia is the only country in this world without a peace contract with Japan, and North Korea, its little bestfriend has not even any form of diplomatic connection with Japan. Both are terrible neighbours.

However to threaten Japan is not so easy - Japan is located on islands, the Japanese military is considered to be fairly strong especially the Navy, and there are about 55.000 US-troops as backup.
