I think because Ukraine means "outskirt". So, people say I am from the outskirts. But the funny thing is that in Slavic languages there is no "the". Beats me really.

Good thing I read that, since use of the article presumes Ukraine is a region rather than an independent country. I can see how this might offend Ukrainians because you're basically saying their homeland never became a nation. I'll just file this away in my head for future reference when it comes time to impress a Ukrainian hottie.

I had to jump in here and make a plug for Italian women. My wife is from the north of Italy and she's VERY different than the southern Italians that we're used to thinking about, based on our immigrants from Naples, Calabria, and Sicily. My wife is very level-headed and rational for the most part, and sometimes I think I am the more emotional one....until you piss her off. Man, she gets hot under the collar and fights back, but she never throws things, never hits me with a frying pan, and NEVER holds a grudge. Sometimes we yell at each other and you'd think the house would come down, but an hour later, she's cuddling and wants to make up. It's wonderful. Not holding a grudge is huge for me, since I believe in just getting it all out, sometimes.

As for the southern Italians, I'd expect the same, but just fierier (is that a word?).

So, in a nutshell, don't write off Italian women. They may be hard to get, but it's worth the effort.

I did Soviet Studies for my undergraduate university degree, and I recall my professors all using the term "the Ukraine". It's still hard for me to shake the usage of it, and I have my own theory as to where it comes from. I believe it is a residual usage from British colonialism going back to the time, when Ukraine was not independent, but rather the "border region", hence the name. Whenever I hear "the Ukraine" I think of the Charge of the Light Brigade (Crimean War) and other novelties, such as "The Congo", "Siam", "Ceylon", etc.

My mother was from Calabria, which probably explains why I am emotionally incompatible with Russian women, and prefer the affectionate Latinas. Having a cold Russian woman read Dostoyevsky to me in a sexy voice just doesnâ€™t do it for me.

The behavior you describe is EXACTLY how I act (I'm Sicilian myself). I'll go ape shit on a rant and literally 5 minutes later I'll be right as rain. Regarding the couple I referred to earlier, the Italian wife acts the same way and drives her German husband crazy. He takes everything personally when she gets mad, and then gets perplexed when she's all calm only a mere 2 minutes later. It cracks me up every time.

Your wife sounds like a keeper, how did you meet her? That's one thing that bothers me about these dating agencies, there's hardly any Italians.

Another factor that compounds things is that I'm Sicilian, and we're basically the fossilized pig shit northern Italians scrape off their shoes. While I love Italian women in general, I have a very low view of Sicilians, in fact I hate them. God damned fucktarded assholes more often than not, including two of my dumb as f**k coworkers.

Anyhoo, I'm worried that an Italian girl from Northern Italy would wrinkle her nose at the mere though of dating a Sicilian due to the stigma associated with Sicilians, but maybe that's a myth and I'm just projecting my own self-loathing here. That's something you could ask your wife about though, as I could really use some advice on this.

If you check my postings, I believe I've provided some info about Italian women (some I've given to others, privately). Anyhow, I met my wife in Russia, and after several months together there, she went back to Italy to finish the university, and about 6 months later I went back to the US to get my Masters degree. We continued to stay in contact (by letter...we had no PCs at that time), and she'd come visit me in the US for a month per year, and I would go there for my whopping 2 weeks vacation, once a year. This went on for 4 years, until we both finished university. She then came over to the US, and we got married. Yes, she's a keeper and she's awesome. Well worth the effort, considering the hell most men live through in marriage.

Most northern Italian women are very wise to the world and would have no problem with a man of southern Italian extraction. They'd still view you as an American, with the added bonus of having Italian blood. My favorite people in Italy were the Sicilians, and I remind her of that all the time. The North/South thing is a lot of BS these days, so don't make much of it. As a matter of fact, the southern Italians tend to move to the North and are among the most industrious and tough. If you're respectful and intelligent, and treat her like a lady, she'll be happy with you. Just be prepared to live in Italy (or Europe) and not live in the US. They don't want to come here, for the most part. The Southern Italian women are very traditional/provincial and a serious relationship might imply possible marriage, so be very courteous and respectful down there. But honestly, I think they're awesome women, and you couldn't lose by choosing one. That's just my take.

I'm glad to hear the North/South thing seems to be a myth, but it's also true that I have yet to meet a Sicilian that I liked. The only Sicilian women I've ever known were bossy, obnoxious, garrulous and completely clueless f***s. That's why I was surprised when a coworker of mine mentioned his neighbor going to Sicily and bringing back a wife, and how nice and down to earth and absolutely gorgeous she was, and I just couldn't believe it. A Sicilian girl that was pretty, quiet, smart AND nice? Horseshit. But apparently it seems to be true.

BTW, I've dabbled with an Italian dating site here and there but not for a long time. I just don't know what sites are really reputable. I'll check out the link you provided though.

Wow check out that Russian woman's next response! She makes some really deep comments and compliments about this website! She obviously must be a very deep and truthful person herself. According to her, all her Euro/Russian immigrant friends in the US feel the same way. She might come join this forum. I hope she does!

At first I thought that emphasis on dating is a bit shallow and might repel some thinking, deep people, but the more I looked at it, I came to think that it might just do the opposite...tell the guy/person who is love/sex/normalcy starved in this country, dying inside and craving for life and love that he should go read some philosophy he'd send you on a familiar route...however, if the same love/sex/normalcy starved individual is told he should look at this site to find love, he'd go, but later, he'll maybe look at philosophical, spiritual pages, and, hopefully, will be on the road to enlightenment. So, it might actually work to attract more readers who otherwise wouldn't bother to look. )

But the site on the whole is very profound. I believe you should collage all the material and publish it, public just needs to know all that.

I could write volumes on the subject of America, mine and my Slavic friends' experiences here, but perhaps not at once, if you forgive me for time-lacking:-) so, I might do by bits. Sure, I can join your Forum, I hope it is not a difficult procedure.

II. About your adviser and just HOW (in his opinion - is he a male?) Russian women (and rest of Slavic for that matter) are HAPPY here...ooofff, what a British Encyclopedia we could just write. You know, your site for for guys (as primary, level 1st target audience), and you speak form guys' experiences...well, we could just say the same of American men, just the same...we cannot find happiness with them...they are too shallow, ignorant, controlling, empty, materialistic, and all within the lines. Slavic women suffer in their relationship with American guys. I have Serbian, Polish, Bulgarian (girl)friends, and it is like we all say just the same things, and have same emotions in our American circumstances. To put it short, it is like having this creature (in a female form), that is so alive, and spirited, and lovely, and smart, and with common sense, and with good taste, culture, education, etc., and here is her American guy...did you read J. Fowles novel, the "Collector"? Well, if you did, that's the picture, nothing more to add to this. It's a murder, slow, painful, and torturous murder, a crucifixion of a creature in a Slavic human form. There were times when I almost died from depression (I read thru ur cult testimonial, and very much the same symptoms I had myself), and I am not sure as to what degree of sanity I managed to keep intact to be honest. If I survive, few of my friends and I are moving back there once it is logistically possible.

...attraction...all Slavic women are beautiful...but...what to say...? you know, from my experience, the men who looked at me, or payed attn to me here (in a "normal", European way), are Europeans themselves!!!! American guys just don't see it! ( I have access to European community here, and so, that is where I find normal men!)..they are not Americans!! I maybe got attn 2 or 3 - not more, times from American guys..agn, what do you define attention..? a glassy look? Or an intelligent interest? well, glassy looks I got, and maybe desire to sleep, but those 2 or 3 American guys were again studying languages and so a bit more animated than "normal" American guys. I am not really sure yet...it looks like American guys/ppl are so dead inside they are incapable of discerning beauty, because only spirit can do that. I stopped dressing well here, make-up, etc....it takes so much effort and imagination, and they are not even able to discern the beautiful things in front of their eyes...

I have few friends here, Russian, other Slavic. We gather together sometime, for tea, pies, etc...every time inevitable the conversation turns to "imbeciles" (our term for Americans)...we give resolutions to stop it, to try to be happy, and it doesn;t work, because every time you go out, to a job, to a grocery store, simply driving in traffic here you here stressed and have to deal with imbeciles in every corner. So, depression, depression, depression for Rus women. So, in terms of attention - they are not capable to give real, intelligent, with good sense of humor and sensitivity, attention. I stopped having anything to do with American guys, period. I am going thru a divorce now, and my soon to be ex-husband is a cult member also (Christian, conservative), and I suffered unimaginable shallow mindedness, control, imbecility, and total, killing lack of spirit. The more religious a person is, the less spiritual he is, that is it.

Conservative Christians are usually so obnoxious and insistent on imposing their beliefs on other people, that I figure it out in the first five minutes and run the other way. But yet he was good enough to marry. Now she is in America, he is not good enough. Men who are thinking of bringing foreign women into America should take note of this.
