After watching Obama's speech on CSPAN in Washington DC honoring Martin Luther King Jr. and hearing all the callers on CSPAN rave about how America is the land of the free and the land of milk and honey where all misfits from other nations are accepted, I posted this on their Facebook page:

"America is not the land of the free nor is it even a democracy. This is easy to prove with basic logic and examples.

What most Americans don't know, especially those that never left the country, is that outside the USA, people do not share the belief that America is "the land of the free". Certainly, people in Europe and Australia do not view America as "the freest nation on Earth". They view their own country as more free and more sane as well.

In fact, most immigrants to America report that they do NOT come to America for freedom or to live in a democracy, only to make money and send their kids to prestigious universities. Now if you are an immigrant who is exposed to American movies and media, you may be wondering if the US is really the land of the free or not. It isn't. Let me explain why.

If you define freedom as "being able to do whatever you want without being controlled by others" then I got news for you:

a) There are MORE laws in America than there are in other countries, not less. More laws = more controls and restrictions.
b) The laws in the US are more strictly enforced than in other nations. For example, traffic laws in the US are strictly enforced by cops, which makes the roads safer, but this is not the case in most other countries.
c) Cost of living in America is among the highest in the world, especially when it comes to housing and healthcare. This forces people to WORK MORE, not less, and become workaholics just to make ends meet. In fact, the number one cause of bankruptcy in the US is medical bills, a problem NOT shared by the rest of the world. The high cost of living in America balances out the benefits you may receive from a higher salary working in the US. Obviously, a higher cost of living and being in debt means that you will be LESS FREE, not more free, because real freedom means not having to worry about money and debt all the time.
d) There is too much political correctness in America, which rules public speech and restricts what you can say. What this means is that you can't be too honest in America.
e) After 9/11, the US has been moving toward becoming a dictatorship. The government has nearly revoked the authority of the US Constitution and passed laws such as the Patriot Act to take away people's rights and freedoms. They've done this under the phoney guise of security and the War on Terror, which makes no sense because there is no threat of domestic terrorism (other than the proven staged ones) and you are more likely to fall down the stairs in your home or get hit by lightning than be the victim of a terrorist attack. So there is no basis in giving up your rights and freedoms for such a false threat. It's just an excuse to instate fascist control in America and turn it into a police state. All of this is eerily similar to what happened in Germany before the Nazis came to power.

So you see, the idea that America is "the land of the free" and freest nation on Earth is largely a myth that has no basis. Americans and their media chant it like a religion without analyzing the basis for it."

Did any of you listen to Obama's speech in Washington DC in commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. and the March on Washington? If so, what did you think of it?

Why do black people think that Obama is some messiah or something, especially since he's broken all his promises and has no verifiable past?

When I hear Obama speak, he does not sound intelligent or intellectual at all. He does not even sound sincere. He sounds like he's humoring people with BS whitewash that would only fool the dumbest people. Ever notice that?

In a way, listening to him speak is an insult to the intelligence. He has no charisma or inspiration. He sounds like a whitewashing propagandist. Even Hitler sounded a lot more genuine and charismatic than Obama does.

He has had to listen to the drooling, rabid NeoCon Imperialists telling him he HAD to attack Syria like an emperor, without Congressional (or U.N.) approval. But one thing about that Kenyan-born, half-Jew CIA-test-tube-baby usurper: he has actually STOOD UP to the warmongering "National Security" (lol) Establishment. He has said f**k YOU to the Zionists, and kicked the can down the road to the week of Sept. 9. He said
"Okay, guys **I'M** going to be the Constitutionalist, and YOU WARMONGERS will have to step up and twist arms and break legs in the House of Representatives and get them to actually VOTE for war -- per the Constitution. I will not be your Useful Idiot."

One thing I found interesting when I was watching the coverage of it was the mention of equality and JOBS. I never knew his movement was about government welfareism (although I knew he was a socialist). Find that interesting, since I never heard that side of the story.

Yeah, and I'll bet there will be some serious behind the scenes, sub-media lobbying from the administration to get enough votes against it. Obama knows what a clustermuck intervention could become. But AIPAC rules the Hill, so it's almost impossible to imagine the chicken-hawk poltroons voting down any opportunity to kill people.

As for Obama not being bloothirsty -- well, I think he enjoys flexing his muscles with a bit of predator drone bloodsport, in moderation. See him make jokes about it -- "For young men thinking about dating my daughters, I have two words: predator drones."
