Do people really win the lottery?

I know the lottery is a scam. Not only to make money off people, but to keep their minds under control.

But having said this, do people really win the lottery? When you see photos/interviews of "winners", did they really win, or are they just paying them to pretend? Do they occasionally have a REAL winner, just to keep up public confidence?

Another thing, where do all the profits go? Who makes all the money out of this? Is it the government?
