I went to live in China... ask me anything!

OK for those of you who are new here, here's a quick recap.

I started looking for a Chinese wife back in 2009. I was 37 at the time, had a good career, but started to feel lonely.... and that feeling that a woman was what was missing from my life.

Why Chinese? Because they were the girls I thought were hottest on the ForeignLadies.com mail order bride themed site.

Why didn't I look for love earlier in life? I've always liked foreign ladies, but it just never occurred to me that Asian women would be interested in younger guys like me. And also my Uncle was a long time visitor of Thai ladies, but Thai ladies don't rock my boat like Chinese ladies do.

OK so my first visit to China confirmed that while the Internet (and certain dating sites) can lie, China really is full of absolutely beautiful women.

I've dated a succession of Chinese (and a couple of Japanese) women but I've come to the conclusion that I'm just too darned picky for the dating site > chat to women > go to Asia for a fortnight to meet a woman/women thing to work. It can work, but marriage is just too big a step in my opinion.

It needs careful thought.

So I quit my well paid job, sold most of my possessions and here I am, in Guangzhou, China.

Why Guangzhou?

My first visit to China was to Wuhan in Hubei Province. Geographically it's in the middle of the country. It's quite a boring city, with not much for a Westerner to do. The ladies are beautiful, but you might go out of your mind if you spent any length of time there.

So for my 2nd visit to China I chose Guangzhou. It's about 100 miles up the Pearl River from Hong Kong.

I really fell in love with Guangzhou (or Gz as the locals call it) as soon as I got on the metro that whisked me right into the centre and I could walk to my hotel. The hotel has Pizza Hut, McDonalds and a whole load of Asian restaurants nearby.

Gz is also a good place to take a date - there are lots of tourist sites. And there's a couple of great shopping streets which will allow you to check if your date's a shopaholic!

The weather is also good here, although it's almost always stupendously hot and humid. I'd rather have that than the biting cold I witnessed in Shanghai last January!

OK so China is harder to get a visa for nowadays and if you want to find a Chinese wife I recommend you stay for a year. You've got 3 main options: teach English, work as an expat or study.

Teaching English is good if you don't have much cash savings. The little girl on the plane next to me was learning English from a book - it's a massive industry here. For a better chance of a job head for medium sized cities like Changsha.

Expat jobs are available but you'll need some kind of expert status. Younger guys can try and land an internship though. Remember that China has no shortage of unskilled labour and you'll not get a work visa if a Chinaman can do your work.

Finally Chinese universities offer reasonably priced education and options include MBA's or just learning Mandarin. I've chosen the Mandarin option - it does cost around $2600 a year but students here get bargain basement health insurance, food and accommodation.

So here I am, and assuming my visa gets processed OK, I'll be here until early July. Will Winston visit? Who knows

If I had more funds I'd come pay you a visit, though I know the point of leaving your country is to stay away from anything that reminds you of it, including the people.


I might have to check out that city sometime, shenyang is a total bomb when it comes to attractive women, I hardly see girls I'm attracted to, and whne I do, they're taken for sure, unless they're working in a bar, but even then it's iffy, because they get paid to drink with you!



is it anything like the big city or is it a smaller city kind of feel?

When you say the women are 10's, do you mean thin bodys, or you mean attractive faces? I'm a face guy, but you give me both and I'll toss the girl over my shoulder and run away!


Oh and do your self a HUGE favor, get some bruce lee fast food...my god that stuff is epic, I had pork and cabbage, and some kind of bone soup! and get yoshinoya too, make sure you get the steam egg, and when you do, take my advice, dump it in to your rice bowl, Ohhh..

Guangzhou is big and vast - there's about 10 million people here and half of them are usually wanting to get on the same metro train as you do.

By 10's I usually mean face. Most Chinese women have pretty good bodies. I do tend to prefer the curvier girls, which is fine because Chinese men like the stick-thin ones.

Bruce Lee? Do you mean the Kung Fu burger place? I've not tried that one. I am however a massive fan of the Japanese noodle place here, the spicy fried yam is awesome.

I have to admit, I love stick thin women, the usa has made me hate any sign of fat hahaha.



The bruce lee place is a chinese food place, the one by me here in shenyang has no brugers, but I guess it might not be a chain, though my buddy said it was.


chinese women are random, some are interested as hell with you to the point of being scarry and dragging you off, others literally stare at you like your fake.


Tell me how the women treat you, I'd be interested to know the female to male ratio vs how the women treat you, I would imagine if the city has way more young women, your chances go up to date the attractive girls, here its not so great, 6 men to every 1 woman.

Good stuff XM! Finally you're where you wanted to be for so long! I'm happy for you! I'd be following this with great interest as I'm also in the same boat as you were not long ago: looking to return and live in GZ.

Don't discard the business opportunities there. It's crazy good. Start networking and you never know who you might meet. I'd start with the elevatorlife guys...

Yeah, I'll check out the elevator guys, but first I need to sort out the jetlag. Like today I've eaten breakfast at 18:00.

Anyway, today I found my new uni and the hotel where I'll be staying next.

It's not very warm here today, but I'm still wearing Summer clothes while Chinese people are in coats etc.

There are plenty of beautiful ladies around. However, I've not been to the places where they congregate. And it's vacation time so there aren't many office ladies around either.

There are plenty of single ladies here. If you've never been to China, then you'll find it hard to believe just how many people there are here. Guangzhou and Shenzhen are full of middle class girls who have found better paid jobs here than they could ever hope to find in their rural homelands.

I'll start networking once I'm settled. Networking will be useful for meeting ladies as well. I'm OK for money for a while though - the wife finding is the priority here.

I should be here in the fall - I've signed up to the Uni for 1 year.

I've never done English teaching. Really English teaching is what you do if you wanna live here but haven't got a better source of income. Although if you love teaching/working with kids then it's a good job.

Chinese ladies are also a little suspicious of English teachers... they have reputations as play men.

Getting a legal job here is nearly impossible unless you have a skill that the locals don't, or you have good connections. Hence native English speakers can get work permits to teach English. However, you can start your own business.

What am I doing today? I was exhausted and slept until 13:00. I had some decent Chinese food for lunch - 34RMB.

I then hit the shops at the electronics district. I picked up a case for my ultrabook - 15RMB - good price! I also got a new suitcase lock and a couple of bags for organising stuff.

I've seen a few white legged ladies that Winston so lusts after. I think Winnie's gonna have to improve his game if he wants to date one of these girls.

Chinese 10's are gonna take a lot of impressing from any man. Still, it's very easy to find girls to date here who are way, way hotter than who you could date back home. Take it from me, my friends were very impressed with my first Chinese gf when I posted her photos on Facebook. I guess the fact that she was quite tall, slim and was wearing over the knee socks was a good thing! In China she was only average, but I adored her.

Actually, it looks like I have a date lined up for next week. She's the best friend of one of the girls I once dated.

I'm also looking on CLL. Many ladies on here.

If you're a guy in your 50's or 60's then China is the place to come for a wife. The women in the 35-45 age range are pretty darned hot. Any older guy can find a top notch wife here, way better than you'd find in the USA or Western Europe.

Divorced Chinese ladies don't often remarry.

OK so I've had a turbulent couple of days. The jetlag is a real beast and the body doesn't easily like to let go of your own country's timezone.

I've now moved from Tianhe to Baiyun, where my University is. The hotel is quite nice, although the bathroom door doesn't close properly. Little annoyances like this are incredibly common in China.

I met one of my Chinese ex girlfriends as she lives in the area. She has been a great help in helping me open a Chinese bank account, get a mobile phone and find out where I need to register at the University.

I wished I'd spent more time in China in 2011, maybe I could have got to know her better. She's not a 9 or a 10, but I feel very relaxed being with her. Also her voice is nice - Chinese girls who learn English in China often have beautiful accents.

Anyway, we walked round my new University and it looks really good. I think I'll have a really good time there. You younger guys who want Chinese wives should come here. There are way more girls than boys here, because girls are better at studying languages.

Also I saw a few students, and there were some VERY hot girls hanging around campus. Yes, some were 10's! I guess all you need to do to date them is kick a ball around on the football pitch and look fairly alpha and I'm sure they'll go and ask you for help with their English!

I believe my lessons are only in the mornings, so I'll have afternoons and evenings to do crazy stuff. I think I'll have to do a Chinese test before I start lessons, then they'll work out which class I need to go in. I can read and speak a little already, so hopefully I won't be in the beginners class. Anyway, none of the shop keepers/waitresses round here speak English, so I'm gonna have to learn Chinese pretty darned quickly!

By the way, it's really cheap to be a student here. If you're destitute then you can eat a massive bowl of rice in the student canteen for 1RMB. Sharing a room is also very cheap.

It's also much cheaper up here in the suburbs. I bought dinner for myself and my ex, and it was less than I paid for a meal for one down in the business district.

I've also found a big supermarket with a huge array of stuff to eat.

The air is also better here, and you can hear birds singing.

I still need to sort out my visa and find an apartment. After that I'm pretty much open for business.

Tomorrow the New Year vacation ends, so everywhere will go crazy again.

I'm starting to really enjoy being in China.

Today I went to Guangzhou station to watch the hoards of migrant workers return to Guangzhou from the provinces. Soon the iPod and plushie factories will be working again.

There were big queues in the metro station. Some of the migrant workers probably never saw an escalator before in their lives, much less a ticket vending machine.

I saw too many beautiful women to count. Also I didn't see a single other Westerner in my entire afternoon out.

OK, so tonight I went on my first date since being here. I met a girl I'd seen before. She is actually a very nice girl, and I'd love to introduce somebody here to her. All you have to do is come here!

So she's about 5' 4", 34 years old and Cantonese. Her English is pretty good. She is a little chubby, but her legs are very shapely. She has quite a round face. Considering what 34yo Western women often look like, yeah she's really something. Also I know I can trust her, which is also important.

Well I met her before, and she's not really my type. However, the purpose of the meeting was that she wanted her bff to meet me.

Her bff was quite shy. I guess she was about 5' 2", 28, Cantonese and very cute. Really exotic looking. Exquisite even. She reminded me a little of the elves from Lord of the Rings. A very cute and sexy lady indeed.

Cantonese girls are a good choice for Westerners. They're somewhat more cultured and a little less rough round the edges. On the downside, their language is totally incomprehensible.

God knows what we ate. The Chinglish in the restaurant was exquisite. I'm not a big fan of Cantonese cooking.

Speaking of rough round the edges, one Chinese man made a big scene in the restaurant and started shouting. Apparently his wife's meal was served cold.

As an English man I'd never do this. Yet my Chinese friend applauded the man for looking after his wife. I need to learn more about these kinds of cultural differences.

One other thing - a plate of oysters her cost just 28RMB. Hey - you could add another 0 to that in England! Yeah, you can live like a King here on not very much money at all.
