Re: Soccer referee in Brazil was beheaded by angry fans
I've seen Brazil equivalent of Youtube vids of someone being beaten to death by a mob in a neighborhood (not favela) for snatching a cellphone from some guys girlfriend there.
Yes I realized that. TSHTF when the player died en-route to the hospital. If that 20 yr. old ref had any sense, he would have gotten outta dodge as soon as it became apparent how badly hurt the stabbed player was.Renata wrote:It was vigilanty justice ... the referee stabbed a player then the fans turned on him. That's normal in South America, lots of vigilanties there.
Ref looked cocky but still very much like a kid. Reminds me very much of the way many of the guys playing sepaktakraw on Rio's beaches look,.
Besides the emotional nature of so many Brazilians, football is a very serious game there just as it is in certain other countries. Add too that dynamics of mob psychology and it's no wonder things got so ugly.
I got shocked by the second vid. Looked like they went medieval on him. Mob's don't give a damn about killing humanely. They just want maximum revenge. Very scary.

I wouldn't say this is "justified" but when you dangle moral bait in front of human nature then you can expect the most debase actions to come out in the heat of anger. The player was an asshole for assaulting a referee but killing someone and not expecting retribution from crazed family members is his own fault. What they did was ugly but it is what it is.
Power in numbers'. Did they pull him apart,... damn he was in pieces. Rock, I've never been to Rio doubt I'll bother going there. It's a shame though that's a great country. I've read other articles about people getting robbed and stuff & there's no one that help or can help. What about the Rio Carnival that's a big thing

I mean the guys look, smile, and cocky style, just like so many of local guys u see playing sport during day in Ipanema and Copacabana beaches. But I never saw an ugly incident between sporting locals tho I saw quite a few muggings and snatchings, usually around dusk. And day after my parents left, 19 year old Portuguese male tourist got stabbed to death on beach in front of their hotel mid-day by some favela punk cus the kid refused to hand over his stuff.Renata wrote:Power in numbers'. Rio Carnival is over-rated IMO unless u like massive crowds, wild behavior, and prices 3 times their normal level for everything in a country which has already become expensive. I actually hi-tailed it to Belo Horizonte one year 2 days before carnival started and remained until after the event was done.
Anyway, as you know, South America and Caribbean are full of dangerous crime ridden cities. Rio gets more publicity than most. But if you look up murder and assault rates, there are many spots even worse, both in Brazil and in other SA/Caribbean countries.
I've never seen vigilante/mob behavior come into play except once in DR (tho part I saw was just a bunch of people yelling and chasing someone when I passed thru on bus) and on Youtube vids. Hope I never witness anything like what happened in the article. It would be traumatizing.
BTW, I think that second vid might be fake.

Many parts of Brasil really put revenge and vengeance in the power of the beta/omega common male.
No police state but there are police present in Brasil - just not omnipresent like the U.S. of Gay.
...hence you are on your own to protect yourself. You will not get penalized for killing somebody if they f.uck with you and you get away without too much difficulty.
That's what I have noticed.
