Get Ready for the Exit Tax

Post by rudder »

Heading out of the country this time to south America I witnessed the whole TSA naked body scanner garbage, gropfest. I didn´t experience any of that when I went to Mexico over the summer.

Something new happened this time that I´ve never heard of. On the hallway leading towards the plane itself some goon dressed in civilian clothing with a local sherriff badged told me to face the wall and give him my passport. I asked who the hell he was, and he told me he was from depçt of homeland security. Among the nosy questions he asked about my plans in South America. He demanded I tell him exactly how much cash or cash equivalent I was taking on my person. He said I HAD to dislose that information to US.

Sounds suspicious to me, but what does the government or it's little brainwashed worker bees do that ISN'T?

My understanding is as of July 1, 2014 you will not be able to move your US assets offshore. That's why they want to know how much money your taking with you. If you want to leave the US indefinitely the time to leave is now.

As I have said before, there will be a mass exodus of Americans trying to leave the US soon for the green pastures of South America. George Bush bought 100,000 acres in Paraguay. Rupert Murdoch has land in Argentina. Many other Americans are retiring in Panama, Peru, Ecuador and Chile.

It's offensive, but not new.
They also have dogs trained to sniff out cash.

The only money I'll ever be taking with me on a plane is the money I need to start-up at a new TEFL job or the money for a vacation/trip. Money makes you a target to a government that is a money junkie.
Yeah, they're looking for more than exploitative images.

That doesn't make any sense to me... can you elaborate?

So if I head south of the border after July 1st, I won't be able to use the money in my bank account to pay my expenses while I get established in a job abroad?

Doesn't sound right... got a link to any articles about this?
