The only drawback is that I will have to fund it.

All I can say is: do it! Living in another country will broaden your horizon like nothing else.

What's your career? Shanghai is very much all about finance. Time spent in China is a great thing to put on your resume though. When I was studying there we only had 2 other Brits in the entire University. I talked to one of the guys, he was having a fantastic time (as was I of course).

I just got a new job in the travel niche, so that time spent in China is going to pay off further down the path.
I was Happier Abroad for a while but Covid killed that off.

Never miss and opportunity to see the world. Once you marry and settle down, the option diminishes. If I were you, I would do it.

Cool story, bro.

Problem solved.

The smog didn't seem particularly bad in Shanghai when I was there in 2011, but maybe I was used to it.

How do the big cities in China compare to Hong Kong in regard to smog? I walked EVERYWHERE for a week while there and I got headaches every single day. I realized it was due to the air I was breathing in. I wasn't wearing a mask or cloth over my face like many of the locals were though...

The main problem in Guangzhou were the 6+ lane freeways full of traffic - the air was horrible next to them.

Actually the air was pretty bad everywhere in Guangzhou but that was more due to the humidity than anything.

Having said that I used to clean my apartment and the soot was just awful. We get a bit of that in England, but in Guangzhou I had to clean it off once a week.

PessimistOfBlacks and MrScarcity, you two make a great team, should probably go into life-coaching.

2)Everybody is full of it. What's your hypocrisy?

Dude. Come on. You gotta post more info than that and/or some links to what you're talking about. Your post is very incomplete. Please don't do that next time. You are lowering the quality of posts here.
