Russian Ruble vs Philippine Peso

Post by OutWest »

The Russian Ruble is now worth about the same as the Philippines Peso. The Philippines' economy is
growing faster than Russia's as well. The prospects for the Russian economy are not good.

The Chinese will be there to "help" as they pick up Russian resources at dirt cheap levels.

Does that mean that good Russian girls will be even more eager to marry a man from a relatively wealthier nation?

In time, it may mean that is true. Russia is not headed towards prosperity.
There is this fantasy that somehow Putin has done well for Russia.
He has played into the Russian mentality of loving a Czar, while squandering Russia's wealth
and enriching his friends. Newspaper reporters who critique him have their papers closed or
end up getting shot. Rule of law and property rights are farcical.

There is the silly notion that Putin cracked down on the Oligarchs. Nothing could be further from the truth.
He simply disposed of Oligarchs who were a threat to him while allowing those who support him to run unchecked. In the USA, the top 1%, or 320,000 hold the same percentage of the nation's wealth as a mere 110 oligarchs in Russia.

The truth is, Russia had a good run while raw resource prices were high. Now that they are dropping, the national budget is in big trouble and the fact that Russia produces little beyond military equipment is made more obvious. China, while still officially Communist, figured all of this out a long time ago, and the Chinese economy left Russia in the dust long ago. The Chinese must see Russians as fools, but they will happily buy up Russia's resources to supply the Chinese tiger.

The image of the drunk, low or no income Russian male lives on to some degree, and many Russian women may not be content with their options. I don't know if that by itself would make them a good choice
as a wife however. It is my understanding that marriages between American men and Russian women
suffer a high rate of divorce. Individual mileage may vary.

And the UA grivna went from 8 to the dollar to 13 to the dollar. Even a bigger drop.

I'm wondering how much longer Putin is going to put up with ruble being devalued at a parabolic rate. Russian nukes coming to a neighborhood near you.

What exactly would that mean for the people of Russia? Could you explain that in greater detail?

their purchasing power for anything outside of russia has dropped in half cause their usd to ruble conversion has dropped roughly in half since last year. So they probably now have a purchasing power of a chinese or indonesian now once that effect trickles into the economy because russians were twice as rich as chinese awhile back. its happened so fast it will take some time to translate into goods they buy.

So do you think it should make a good American gentleman much more desirable to Russian girls now, compared to one year ago, considering the loss of purchasing power? Should it be easier to get a girl and enchant her now that the purchasing power dropped in Russia?

I'm not ready to find that out. I won't want to get a girl until I can offer her a decent life and I have my own place, which I'm currently working on. I'm curious about if that is how things will be in the future assuming the Ruble remains at a low purchasing power relative to other major currencies.

The effects could be as bad as 1998 during their currency crisis post USSR collapse. How do you think russian brides became so popular? Once they got richer than they all became scammers and no need for us americans anymore. Thats why you never hear about them. Same thing happened with chinese as they got wealthier the women didn't need us anymore as much. You dont h ear about chinese brides as much as you did many years ago. Its all relative though its about CHANGE. for example a russian becoming as poor as a chinese is a big shock to them cause they are not used to it wheras a chinese has always been at that level for many years now.
