No don't do that, because you would then subject yourself to pressure to put other posters there, and you, being of a relatively weak moral character when it comes to the forum (no offense) would do this, and this would allow government trolls to destroy the forum. He says he is leaving, and that is because the lack of moderation caused him to get his butt kicked. If he leaves, let him leave and take the win.

Duende, you kinda look silly investing so much energy in arguing with this guy and taking him so seriously if you don't want him around. You know trolls feed of the energy of others. The more you put into the debates, the more you feed him. If everyone ignored him, he would probably wither and die a slow death. Look at the bigger picture, don't be so left brained.

I don't like arrogant people, braggards, FOS with nothing to show for it, and people who lay gratutitous insults. This guy pushed all them buttons, so elicited my reaction. I just feel pity for him because, like a majority of trolls, he prefers to spend all of his energies posting fantasies than making some of those fantasies come true.

I 100% agree with some other poster who said, on another thread, that it's people like PAG who make you appreciate people like Cornfed who, for all his deranged and racist outlook on life and society, does sound geuinely interested in giving his contribution to this forum, however opinable it might be.

Which would be fine, but have discernment and don't just whip it out whenever someone with unpopular opinions posts. They need to exemplify actual trolling behavior repeatedly. I think that would be a good start. This way, you aren't restricting free speech.

Of course there will be discernment. I am a good judge of character. How should we decide though, who is to go into the troll board and who is to be banned? What's the criteria?

This could complicate things too. I've seen other forums have a troll board which they call "the trash binge" or something like that. They will put posters with unpopular opinions there, who are not really trolls.

Also, having a troll board here could make the forum look kind of ghetto or compromised. Like we have to have a dumping ground to appease the trolls.

Ok well if PaloAltoGuy is gone, then problem solved. If not, maybe we can limit him to a troll board. But I have to figure out how to set that up first.

I don't like putting people on ignore, it messes up discussions especially with others quoting them. And your reply is off-topic, as you do not go into his actual behavior and posting history. I know this is a free speech forum, but when did free speech become a thing for trolls?

I had it with Paloatoguy and his BS. He used to be confined to his own threads but lately he's shitting up other threads too with his copy-paste messages and images, gibberish and yelling. He adds literally ZERO to any discussions. I'm all in favor of banning him, rather then waiting for him to disappear. This forum is supposed to be all about freedom of speech but a good gardeners knows when to cut the rotten apples off. No reason to run it like it's some f***ing nanny state. So I made a poll on whether or not to ban him, like we did with Cornfed before. People like PAG or Anatroll make me appreciate Cornfed more, because Cornfed at least made a few decent and insightful posts about modern culture. Even a broken clock hits the right time twice a day, but allowing a disruptive troll to mess up a forum has nothing to do with "free speech".

I am pretty confident the poll results will show that very few people consider this man a valuable addition to these forums. A toddler can copy and paste shit too, throw tantrums and cry, but sometimes toddlers have to be disciplined and this person is NOT a good addition to the forums at all. Getting rid of him would probably improve posting quality, if only just a little bit. He's had his time, he's had his laugh, but the entertainment value has gone away and he just gets on people's nerves now.

There's a thing to be said for allowing controversial views such as racism, and allowing opposing views. I get that. But deliberate trolling, derailing of discussions and messing around should not be allowed to freely happen without consequences. It may be funny for a while, but the novelty wears off and shit gets old. I say we end this and be done with it.

I had both Anatol and PaloAltoGuy on "ignore" before the forum change, not sure if it still applies, but I still see multiple threads that PAG starts as I scan through topics. In the case of PAG, IMO he is just a loose cannon (loose ego). In the case of Anatol, I think he is a classic troll, a provocateur who is actually paid some pittance by some intel agency to try to provoke stupid responses. He fails, but that is no reason to keep him around.
