If you need to crash diet, then there's no secret - just stay off carbs.
Longer term it's more difficult. I thought I was losing weight but I bought some new scales and it turned out not to be the case. Damn. Anyway, I do feel fitter since going out of my way to avoid processed sugar. My weight gain might also be due to having bulked up a bit with the extra exercise I'm doing, plus I'm drinking 2x as much fluids as I used to.
Anyway, I remain convinced that glucose and non-fruit fructose is public enemy #1.

I was Happier Abroad for a while but Covid killed that off.

Choose a reasonable target weight and stop eating until you reach that weight. Not eating means nothing with calories. Coffee, tea, and seltzer are fine. The first 3 days of fasting are hard but after that it becomes easy as your body switches over to burning fat. Once you reach your target weight, switch to a low-carb diet to maintain that weight.
Re: What's your best weight loss tip?
To compete in bodybuilding contest in ‘07 I used a strict no-carb diet consisting of mostly eggs, fish and un-processed meat, with perhaps one day in 10 set aside to splurge on carbs in order to take my body out of starvation mode.

Have you tried this yourself? I have recently become interested in this and once tried to do it but broke down after 48 hours. It was a good experience though and I felt good about doing it. Please tell us anything more you know.fschmidt wrote:Choose a reasonable target weight and stop eating until you reach that weight. Not eating means nothing with calories. Yes, last time I fasted for 8 days. For me the hardest part is staying low-carb after and I usually start eating carbs after a while, but then I just fast again and repeat the cycle, every few months.ryanx wrote:Have you tried this yourself? So during your fast you only drink tea coffee etc? How do you go about your daily life? Areyou just taking it very easy/slow down?

Yes I only drink water, seltzer, tea, or coffee. Some people treat fasting as some kind of mystical experience, but I feel totally normal and do everything as normal. I work, exercise, and do everything else that I normally do.ryanx wrote:So during your fast you only drink tea coffee etc? How do you go about your daily life? Saving most of your food for the end of the day & outright fasting along with this. I've heard that a cup of tea made from a tablespoon of ginger & a tablespoon of turmeric also helps with this.

Not going to the all you can eat buffets and eating like a pig is likely a very good start.
The not so complicated cause of most American obesity is gluttony combined with sedentary living. Of course, simple truths are to be avoided. Oink oink oink.

Re: What's your best weight loss tip?
In an interview with Jesse Ventura, his recommendation on weight loss was to get all your calories from food. Meaning no soda, sugary drinks, or alcohol. Pretty much water and coffee/tea. He said this is an old school bodybuilding advice. Some good advice in this thread about fasting and eating low carbs. Also, control your meals and general food intake. No late night meals or heavy snacking will help in regulating your weight. Make sure to get about 8 hours of sleep but not too much more as I heard this contributes to weight gain as well.

I can lose over 30 pounds in 30 days, yaa no drinks with calories. I am on a diet too. Exercise and you will take the weight off much faster.

That's literally the dumbest thing you could do. You want to burn fat but keep muscle. The best way to do that is simple.fschmidt wrote:Choose a reasonable target weight and stop eating until you reach that weight. Not eating means nothing with calories. STOP DRINKING ALCOHOL COMPLETELY. Limit your calories, and eat balanced meals for breakfast consisting of oatmeal, fruit, and eggs. For lunch, eat light, mostly protein, low carb. For dinner, sweet potatoes, veggies, and either steak, chicken, or fish. Make sure the portions keep you at a calorie deficit of at least 400/day. Work out every other day, using a full-body workout to ensure your muscles are still sending the biochemical signals that they need energy. Repeat for the duration of your contest, and win.
