I do not speak Chinese, but am learning. It's not easy to learn that language. So...they are treating me, or want to treat me like a human being? Well, I'm not used to being treated like that. To be honest Eric, I think Beijing (or Shanghai) is the last place I would try and romance Chinese women - the 'Prague effect' is in full force there, they aren't that bothered by young western guys, they have seen it all before.
I would go west, a good place to go to is Chongqing - massive city with relatively few foreigners, a poster named 'Magnum' was down there teaching English and found himself a girlfriend, still there as far as I know.
Good on you for learning Chinese stick with it, you will reap the rewards, but I would get out of Beijing and go towards another city, Chongqing, Dongguan, Changsha - somewhere like that!

I lived in Asia for about a four-year period. For a little longer than half a year of that, I lived in Korea. Prior to moving there, I had an interest in the Korean language and culture, going back to my time in university. (I had many Korean friends in college.)
I wasn't prepared for the outright hostility I would face. I am not a sensitive guy, but I am observant and notice when people are giving me crap. I was never physically attacked (although a random stranger took a swing at a friend of mine), but people went out of their way to give me a hard time. The vibe was often "Okay, when are you leaving?" or "f**k off, subhuman scum."
In retrospect, moving to a city of only a million to two million people was a big mistake. Seoul is okay. People in Seoul are more open and cosmopolitan, but I have absolutely no interest in living in Korea again. Once was enough.
I did connect with a few Koreans when I was there. If you do make a real Korean friend, they are very genuine. But the "pure-blooded Korean race/master race" stuff that a lot of Koreans subscribe to gets really old fast.
I think couples who go to Korea get less negative attention than young single white men, but I went on a trip with a Canadian couple once, and I was infuriated by how rude the bus driver was to us, so I think even young couples feel some of the heat. (Older couples who are visiting are treated very well.)

Asians are some of the most racist, proud people in the world. That's the truth, as far as I can see it. Man, are the Chinese like that. You described it perfectly I think, I'm not sensitive - but I am observant, moreso than most others around me and this has been true my whole life. I do notice the stares, looks of outright hostility, condescension, etc.
A lot of the women also seem to hear about "Lowei" foreigners, as you can tell they avoid eye contact or have preconceived notions of you before they even meet you. It's like they hear we are "bad news" and so just avoid us. It's funny, kind of. Then, some of them like us for that reason....its funny.
How is this different from western racism? Oh I forgot most of the posters here are white guys. As an Asian guy who grew up in America welcome to my world. I experience hostility from white folks. People speak about the social disconnect in USA or the west but if your a not a white it's 10 times worst that what you get if your an Asian guy. I think some of you just focus only on your issues and can't see outside of yourself. I think allot posters have this fantasy of Asian thinking that as a white guy you land in Asia and women be all over you and people kow tow to you. Totally bullshit.

I don't know if I agree with entitlement to sex for men. I remember my dad told me once that no one will give you anything. This includes money, happiness and women. It something that has to be be earned. Sure guys can always pay for it..but you want a relationship it's something that has to be earned. How do you view women than? Your way off. Maybe back in the 80-90's white guys had that novelty factor but that novelty wore off. If anything if your a white guy you got to be young , good looking and tall to have a decent shot. If your below that it's harder but not impossible. I'm married to a native Korean woman. I met and spoke to number of Korean women in my stay in Korea . There are some Korean women who are open to dating foreign men but Korean women are not dumb they know about the mongers and are weary of them.
Again many posters here have this ethnocentric view point. I mean plastic surgery is big in Korea but it's not too much they want to look white . It's like a white women getting butt implants does that mean she wants to be black? Or a black women straighten her hair to look more white. It's more about looking better. The thing about Korea is let say a famous Korean woman get a certain look the young Korean girls want to copy that look. The plastic surgery in my opinion messed up Korea because they are all starting to look alike.

I'll give you the side you never understand from a white man's perspective. Most of the anger/irritation you see coming from whites is not because we are "racist", it is from being called "racist", over and over again....for being accommodating and being attacked over and over again for it; being used, a whipping post etc. If anything, most whites are the least racist bunch that I know, not because they willingly want to be - but out of manipulation for so many years. Yet, we are still attacked, we have grown weary of this. And this is why there is a seething sort of racism/hatred or irritation that is on the backburner...
Understandable, we have been pushed completely beyond the bounds and limits of human capacity in these matters. I suppose others like yourself will still feel self-put upon and righteous. The truth is - no one cares about Asians much in America, you should feel good about this - you are not involved in the thicket of neverending race war.

I've seen the agenda against whites and experienced it/experience it daily in the U.S. You can't tell me I'm lying - I'll call you "full of shit" and know I'm right about saying so. South Korea is a different kettle of fish, but in my opinion, it isn't race per se that stops westerners from dating Korean women (though it is still seen as something of a taboo
if women date western men...) but age, friendships and relationships linked to age are strictly enforced in Korean society, what a Korean usually says when they find out you are the same age as them is 'Oh, you are the same age as me? We can be friends'. So if you are more than five years senior than a woman then you have no real chance of dating her. The best time to come to Korea to date local women is straight after graduation in my opinion, the longer you leave it the less likely you will get a Korean girlfriend who is decent looking.

Depends where you are in the country, some places are a lot more redneck than others and it depends how old you are.
No young Korean woman who is decent looking is dating a man ten years her senior unless he is rich and Korean (which disqualifies a lot of westerners).
Age is a factor, if you are over thirty, you are looking at divorcees and single mum's - which you can have back home.
You're right it isn't difficult to get a girlfriend in Korea but when I lived there it seemed like the vast majority of foreign guys dated lower quality girls, the kind of girls that hang out in itaewon every weekend. Some of the real dumb ones would actually date the waitresses that worked at the pubs in itaewon. They always seemed to have something wrong with them. Those girls would be considered trailer trash in the U.S.
