Btw when i heard E Irizarry on the phone call clip, he sounded very nice and down to earth. Like a cool guy to chill with. But his forum posts are hard to read. They contain a lot of details and words i cant make out. Why? Is he super creative and bright that i dont understand him? Or is his communication style just different? Life does not revolve around the few people you happen to know. There are all kinds of factors that influence why some have an urban accent, including neighborhood and social class. And the fact that you think EI sounds black just shows you don't have a very good grasp of cultural panache. I know BLACK people who don't happen to sound black so what's your point?

Not all New Yorkers have an urban accent is what you are trying to say. I just explained why and this is not an "ALL New Yorkers" discussion. It is about people who speak with an urban accent.

In addition, there are far more New York Latinos who sound like EI than blacks. I would not even say that EI speaks with what is linguistically referred to as African American Vernacular English (AAVE). This black linguistics professor is an expert on black English. Does he sound "black" to you?

I guess E Irizarry takes offense and is insulted by being called black. Why is that an insult? Arent blacks supposed to be proud of their race? I guess if u are mixed its confusing as to what to call you.

I explained this to you earlier. Do I have to do it YET AGAIN? EI is LATINO of partial African descent. He is not ethnically African American. He is Brazilian. So I imagine I would be frustrated to if idiots like you constantly try to fit him into an ethnic box where he does not at all belong.

Secondly, black American is not a "race," it is an ethnic designation in which EI does not fit. I suppose you would find it frustrating too if I called you Cambodian because I think you look and sound Cambodian. See how that works?

Finally, many New Yorkers have a thick accent like EI and they come in all races and ethnicities. The following video shows what I am talking about:



But I am sure to you, these urban New Yorkers just all sound "BLACK." Get a clue for once.....

I would 100% agree with Rock that you appear to have some measure of austronesian admixture, especially if your people are from the early group of Han settlers. That is a truly Taiwanese look if I have ever seen one.

But to Rock's question. You can explain to him that while I am not interested in Asian WOMEN, Asia is a region that had relevance to my former career and I have been to Japan (3 times), Singapore (2 times), South Korea, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Hong Kong. Taiwan is an interesting society and knowing a bit about countries' history and demographic makeup go a long way towards my being inclined to visit.

The term mulatto is offensive. It is a really antiquated, outdated term that is no longer used by anyone that has any racial sensitivity. I find it offensive. However, among some 20-somethings, the term is making a come back and is used among mixed race people within their own group, similar to the N-word. If someone asks me if I am mulatto, I'm offended.

It is nothing wrong with being of mixed race, at least not for me. Race means nothing to me.

However these are outdated historical words and in our politically correctness everything you say might be considered to be offensive to some people, especially in USA.
