About Thai women, this is a never ending topic.

Despite I have been countless times in Thailand, I have no personal relationship with any Thai women, but believe me, I know plenty of horror stories, and sometimes, under certain circumstances, there are some successful matching between a foreign man and a Thai woman too.
Please note that I said : PLENTY and SOME - for some it works, but for plenty it doesn't.

Generally said, Thailand is not so poor compared to Philippines and has a much better infrastructure compared to Philippines, where everything is dispersed on plenty of islands, which are not connected to each other over bridges or tunnels (like it is here in Japan).

Thai women are often not poor at all, and the better educated ones coming from good families are not at all interested into marriage with a foreign man who often is financially weaker than they are. They look for marriage into a rather rich Thai family. Keep this always in your mind as a foreign man!

It is true - what remains for foreign men (who are often low-class people too) is frequently the left-over. No use for Thai men who are in a good financial position - and such women find either low-class Thai boys (somebody who is into drugs, occasional worker who has nothing to offer for a good stable life - or foreign men who believe just everything what the Thai girl is telling them.

Many of these Thai girls from bars, from rural poor families etc. have a Thai boyfriend, have children and using the foreign man only as an ATM.
OK for short-time, but surely unfit for a good marriage. They are often drinkers, heavy smokers, into drugs, no morality, no shame.

Thai women cheat foreign men in a different way compared to Western women. In Thailand women are into living together with the foreign man, often over years and try during that time to get out money as much as they can. This works often well, as foreign men can in general not read Thai, are ignorant what you tell them and listen only to that girl (my Thai bargirl is different!) who is asking them to sign some documents they cannot read. - Finally he is bankrupt and kicked out and all - the land, house, car etc. belongs to her - legally...

Laws in Thailand and in Western countries are not the same, A Thai woman - if not legally married - has hardly any chance after she left him (Thai man or foreign man does not matter) to gain anything. Even not after many years living together sharing the same rooms. There is nothing like alimony or child support.

I found - if I look at these couples I know personally - that a long-term relationship with a Thai woman as a foreign man only works out under such circumstances:

1 - The foreign man wants to live in Thailand and is financially able to do so. Do not bring a Thai woman outside of Thailand. Keep in mind, most Thai women want to continue to live in Thailand (Thai women are not like the Filipina willing to relocate, quite different)

You must stay next to her, never leave her alone (for example travel back to your own country for a short time) as you never know what this girl will do. You must control her. (sounds not very feminist-friendly, but this is the way it is done also by Thai men)

2 - IMPORTANT: The best situation for the foreign man is if the Thai woman does not own anything in her own name (like a small house etc) and had really some very bad experience with her parents, foster parents, boyfriend or husband etc.

Such Thai girls or women, some however not so young and with a child, do not want to have any relationship with a Thai man anymore.
Keep in mind, Thai people can be quite violent...they often are drinkers, full with drugs, ending up in jail...

Such women who come out of such families prefer often a foreign man, and his age is not very important, an elderly man with a good retirement allowance and owner of a nice condominium unit is welcome.

3 -- Be aware of language issues. I can only ask such a foreign man to sign up in a language school and to learn a bit of Thai and be aware that this language is not easy. Do not expect that the girl is really good in English.

4 - As a foreign man, always stay within condominium units - it is safer against burglary and the foreigner can own it 100% in his name.
If this is correctly done and registered in your land title it will belong to you forever (married or not does not matter)
The right of the land title in Thailand is very strong, overriding even marriage/divorce.

Do not sign any document for your Thai girl claiming she wants to buy a land (keep in mind a foreigner cannot own Thai land! Only condo units!)

Do not register a car and even a motorcycle in her name, it might end up in a pawn shop, argument she needs urgently money for her parents and such stupid excuses - it is legally possible to register vehicles in your own name, let her use your motorcycle but keep the registration paper away from her.

5 - If the girl gets angry and violent towards you because you do not fulfill her financial demands remove her immediately from your rooms. Do not allow her to come back, regardless what she will promise to you tearfully, lying on the floor kissing your feet etc. No way...

6 - Keep a good part of your savings outside of Thailand, but give your Thai girl - no need to marry - a daily allowance, something like baht 500,- (USD 15,-) - should not be less than that, but to give more depends on you (and not on her - disregard whatever she says for what reason she needs more money...)

I gave this advice you read above to some foreign men I met in Thailand and they told me angrily, I am treating women like sh*t. I don't care.

The worst cheat I know was 80 million baht (more than 2 million USD) in a rural province, this idiot constructed a palast there for his bargirl and when it was ready the family kicked him out.

Another huge fraud was a woman in Phuket, she 'helped' her 'husband' (he was thinking he is legally married, but Buddhist temple marriage without legal papers from the Thai government does not count and is void) and signed contracts to buy houses to rent out to foreigners as his 'financial security' after retirement. But he could not even read his own name in Thai language in the company- and transfer papers. She sold everything, damage about 60 million baht (about 1.6 million USD) and disappeared - the police arrested her, but it is difficult, as all documents bear his signature to give her full authority - more or less a permission to do what ever she likes.

I say it again - do not blame only Thai women, blame also foreign men who have no idea how to treat them!

That last bit kind of reminds me of that retired police officer I read about a long time ago that moved to Thailand, and a similar thing happened to him, plus he barely had any money and ended up homeless over there before he was able to somehow get back to the States. I always thought Thai women were definitely a lot more harder to build up trust with. When you said that they are less likely to abandon their country and leave, I believe that too. I use to use a lot of dating websites from foreign countries, and the main thing I noticed is that Thai women always marked no on willingness to relocate. Not all of them did it, but a large percentage of them did when compared to Filipina women.

Well, even worse then. I was told that Thai girls are an absolute nightmare foir Thai young men, as well. From what I heard and, I repeat, never had any intention to ascertain by personal experience, even upper middle and upper class ladies who should be - in theory - better educated, more navigated and savvier, display all the traits of the typical Chinese spoiled daughter: shallow, materialistic, bitchy, the social clinger (clinging on the back of a social climber) type, always overestimating their talents, etc etc.

I have a former colleague, a Bitcoin millionaire (apparently there are quite a few) who chose Bangkok as his living base. He is not uber-rich but is doing quite well. He has multiple homes, a boat and all mod cons. Thing is, he is married to an upper-middle-class Thai woman who gave him 3 children. No idea how she looks like. All I know is he is constantly complaining about how her parents, especially her father, even after so many years of marriage, keeps nagging him about getting freebies simply because "he is the man of the house" and "he should be constantly showing respect and gratitude towards his in-laws".

No matter if that "respect and gratitude" means being forced to buy $5,000-a-box cigars and expensive wine every time they visit, which is almost once a month. Apparently, in Thai culture, no matter how many time you comply, the rule is always "one strike and you're out". I really, dearly hope and pray this Thai wife is worth all this pain.

Seattle and all that was pretty okay in the early 1990s, but the same can be said for California too. Things really took a nose dive fast once democrats completely took over though. So get the f**k out of here. Don't want to leave? Fine we'll make you leave, by 2023 everyone must be able to afford electric cars. Too poor to get one? Oh well!"
