The letter D, needless to say, means:
Doto escatllari, a species of sea slug, a nudibranch, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Dotidae, which can be found in the tropical seas around the beautiful homphobic island nation of Barbados, and I believe also elsewhere in the Caribbean.

@Pixel--Dude I've known about Echidnas for a long time. They're one of my favorite animals but I have a lot of favorites. They're native to Australia and are one of the two surviving species of mammals that lay eggs instead of a giving birth.

Last post until I get back next time after New Year: Hummingbird!
This is the beautiful Jamaican Streamer-Tail Hummingbird.
I love these little creatures. There were actually many of them (not Streamer-Tails, which are endemic to Jamaica, but other types) in the Left Coast wilderness areas where I grew up, and I was thrilled when I found out there were so many of them in the Caribbean.

It's the Hellshire Hells' Jamaican Ground Iguana (so I could've got this entry in on any of H, I, or J... if I had any competition):

A hoghunter in the Hellshire Hills in 1990 was out in the dry limestone forest with his dogs, and they nabbed one, and he called the Kingston Zoo and said he'd caught a "dragon." Apparently they thought it was a prank at first, but then when they saw it, it was a big deal because these types of iguanas were thought to be extinct.
That was awhile ago, but I think they're still out there.....
